Voyager

The two identical Voyager spacecraft were launched in 1977 to investigate Jupiter, Saturn. The spacecraft , originally designed for a five year voyage, lasted much longer and managed to visit Uranus and Neptune as well.
  • Both spacecraft are now leaving the Solar System on a new journey, known as the Voyager Insterstellar Mission, to investigate interstellar space. The spacecraft are expected to return data to NASA for possibly three more decades. This is an amazing mission for the two spacecraft which were designed to last only five years.
  • The Voyager spacecraft are fully equipped with cameras, radios, ultraviolet spectrometers, infrared sensors, plasma detectors, magnetometers, and cosmic-ray sensors. All of these instruments are necessary for conducting the variety of investigations and experiments that the spacecraft can perform.
