Enlightenment goes beyond the role of traditional X11 window managers by not just managing windows, but providing a useful, good looking graphical shell from which to work. It is open in design, and instead of dictating a policy it allows the user to define their own policy right down to the minute and infinitesimal details; from its functionality right on through to its looks.
enlightenment-0.15.5: description + notes
The Enlightenment Home Page has more information, including on-line documentation and screen shots.
Known bugs:
- fm (the IRIX interactive desktop file manager) doesn't mix well with enlightenment. You probably don't want to run them both at the same time.
Imlib 1.9.4
(the image processing library enlightenment uses) tends to crash if your root window depth is less than your application window depth. You probably want to add "-class TrueColor -depth 24
" to your display's entry in/usr/lib/X11/xdm/Xservers
. Be sure to restart your server afterwards.
