It uses the "Auto Run" feature of Windows 95 to start, and exits when the audio CD is removed from the CD player. The entry point to EasyCD2 is a small icon in the Windows 95 system tray, thus not occupying any significant screen space while running. EasyCD2 makes itself even easier by importing the data from other CD information databases. It is capable of importing an EXISTING database(1) of about 15,000 CD's! EasyCD2 supports direct querying of all of the remote cddb servers over the Internet. EasyCD2 also supports the "fuzzy" search response which greatly increases the success rate for finding the CD you are playing. You can also download a copy of the cddb database and EasyCD2 can use it when you are not connected to the Internet. In addition, by supporting the SMTP Internet e-mail protocol, EasyCD2 allows you to add your own entries to cddb. All you have to do is provide a return address, an SMTP server name, and EasyCD2 does the rest! As more and more entries are submitted, the fewer you will have to enter yourself! EasyCD2 can also import any information you have previously entered into the Windows 'Cdplayer' application. EasyCD2 provides all the audio CD play functionality that you will need. All basic play functions are supported including: Play, Pause, Stop, Next Track, Previous Track, Fast Forward, Fast Rewind, Random Play, Repeat All Tracks, Repeat Current Track, and Introduction Mode. EasyCD2 also supports CD Artist, Title, and Track Naming, and unlimited track programming. The EasyCD2 CD Control Panel is a small, compact pop up dialog The CD control panel allows basic control over the CD player and shows the current status of the CD being played. It also has an integrated volume control. Now there's no more looking around somewhere else when you really want to crank it up for your favorite song! The EasyCD2 CD Database Manager is an add-on program that compliments the core functions of EasyCD2 by adding the ability to view, edit, and export the entries in the EasyCD2 database. You do not have to have EasyCD2 running to use the CD Database Manager. The export function writes user selected entries from the EasyCD2 database out to two standard "comma-delimited" text files. This allows you to import the CD information into just about any commercial database. EasyCD2 is extremely efficient and does not impact the normal operation and use of your computer. A large amount of time was spent trying to keep EasyCD2 from using too many resources and too much CPU. After all, what do you want a CD player application to do? Eat up all your screen space and CPU, or to just play audio CD's and be easy to use? EasyCD2 is your answer to an easy to use, efficient and full featured audio CD player for Windows 95. If your distribution is a zip file, unzip it using an appropriate unzip utility (I prefer and recommend WinZip which is also available as shareware.) 2. To install EasyCD2, run: setup.exe. 3. Follow the instructions provided. The default installation options are as follows: Directory: EasyCD Program Group: EasyCD The installation for EasyCD2 places the executable and this file into the user specified directory. It adds an icon to the user specified program folder. Finally, it modifies the registry entries that determine which application is started when an audio CD is placed in the CD-Rom drive. NOTE: Do not place EasyCD2 in the "Program Files" directory. If the path to EasyCD2 contains spaces or is too long, Windows 95 can not find the icon that should represent audio CD's for EasyCD2 and ends up using the default Windows icon for the CD-Rom drive. 4 - Uninstalling EasyCD2 -------------------- To uninstall EasyCD2, open the 'Control Panel' and select the 'Add/Remove Programs' icon. Select 'EasyCD Version 2.21' from the displayed list and press the 'Add/Remove...' button. Confirm the remove and EasyCD2 will be removed from your system. 5 - How to Contact GHL Software --------------------------- E-Mail greg@ghlsoftware.com WWW http://www.ghlsoftware.com/ Snail-Mail Greg Leichner, GHL Software 1205A Vicente Dr. Sunnyvale, CA 94086 USA 6 - Future Plans ------------ 1.
