In this issue we present a new version of the game. Instead of one team of friends competing against another, it's just you and your wits pitted against a computer-generated puzzle. Each puzzle is a maze containing blank blocks, stop signs, and arrow icons. Your goal is to navigate a path through the puzzle and capture your flag on the other side. Have fun! ^1MAKING YOUR MOVE Each puzzle contains 7 rows and 13 columns. You decide which row to start on by pressing a number between 1 and 7. If you have a mouse just click on the row number where you want to begin. After making this initial decision, you must navigate your way through the maze by choosing one of the eight possible directions: Direction Key to Press ---------- ---------------- UP Up Arrow or 8 DOWN Down Arrow or 2 LEFT Left Arrow or 4 RIGHT Right Arrow or 6 UP-RIGHT Pg Up Key or 9 DOWN-RIGHT Pg Dn Key or 3 UP-LEFT Home Key or 7 DOWN-LEFT End Key or 1 If you have a mouse, you may click on one of the arrow icons at the bottom of the puzzle to choose a direction. ^1THE ZIG ZAG DRAG To make the game challenging, a limit is placed on the number of times you are allowed to move in a particular direction. At the bottom of the playing screen you will see arrow icons for each direction. Below these icons you will see a "^1MOVES LEFT^0" counter for that direction. Keep an eye on how many moves you have left. If you're just one block to the left of the flag, but you don't have any more moves to the RIGHT remaining, then you will not be able to capture the flag. The move counter is color-coded to help you keep tabs on your moves: Green -- 5 or more moves available Yellow -- 2 to 4 moves available Red -- 0 or 1 move available NOTE: If you have CGA, the entire game will be in black and white, so the color coding for the move counter will not show up. ^1THE GAME BOARD Each puzzle is a maze containing some combination of BLANK blocks, STOP signs, and ARROW icons. Land on a BLANK block, and the program will await your next move. Land on a STOP sign, and you'll have to start the puzzle over. If you land on an ARROW icon, then the program will automatically advance you in the appropriate direction. For instance, if you land on an UP arrow, then you will advance to the block above the arrow icon. To win the game you must land on the spot containing the flag. ^1CHANGE THE CHALLENGE If you get tired of a puzzle or just can't determine the solution, then you can use the key to load a new puzzle file. There are ten different puzzles to choose from. You may either ^1START NEXT GAME^0 and get the next puzzle file or ^1RESTART PRACTICE^0 to go back to the very first puzzle. A name for each puzzle appears above the maze. Perhaps the puzzles are too easy or too difficult for you. If this is the case, just use the key to change the level of difficulty. You may choose from EASY, MEDIUM, HARD, REALLY HARD. The harder the level chosen, the fewer number of moves allowed. Good luck! ^1ACTIVE KEYS The following function keys are active: - Display HELP screens. - Load a new puzzle FILE. - Toggle the SOUND and speech on or off. - Choose the LEVEL of difficulty. - Exit a menu without change or QUIT program. If you have a mouse, the cursor on the screen looks like a small flag. Place it on the function keys listed at the top of the screen, and click it to activate the function. You may also use the mouse to answer Yes-or-No questions. The left button is YES. The right is NO. ^1OUTSIDE OF BBD To run this program outside the ^1Big Blue Disk^0 menu, type ^1ZIG^0. To run this program in ^1SILENT^0 mode, type ^1ZIG S^0. Disk files this program uses: ^FZIG.EXE ^FBEZ.SEZ ^FSHAPES.BEZ ^FALPHA.BEZ
