It's frustrating when you have spent the extra money to get an EGA adapter and monitor when so many of the programs that you buy take the "safe" route and only offer text/CGA support. I also like the idea of creating a new menu system to take advantage of the EGA/VGA as well. I do have a couple of suggestions for your new menu system. 1) Add mouse support. 2) Create a database program for Big Blue Disk and then add an option on your menu which will add the current month's program list to the database. Now that Big Blue Disk is 52 issues old it's hard to keep track of all the great programs that are in our libraries. Perhaps this could be a group effort with your other "Magazine on Disk" publications so that one program will work for all of them. 3) Design the monochrome version of the menu to work with SIMCGA installed. While I have a color monitor a friend of mine runs the CGA programs in BBD by using a public domain version of SIMCGA. When he installs SIMCGA to run a CGA program from your menu, the menu becomes unusable (you can't see the cursor) and he just takes a "shot in the dark" when selecting the program that he wants to run. Thanks for putting out such a great magazine! ^RTroy Truax ^RThornton, Colorado ^1Dear Mr. Truax: ^1Thank you for your kind words and your excellent suggestions. ^1Mouse Support: ^1Yes, we do plan to add mouse support. George Leritte is making ^1changes to the Big Blue Disk presenter as I type, and mouse support is ^1definitely part of the plan. ^1BBD Back Issue Database: ^1We hope you liked Big Blue Disk Issue #53 with the BBD Indexer ^1program. Now you can have all of BBD's back issue information at your ^1fingertips. Currently, our plan is to publish a BBD database file ^1every six months containing the index information for the previous six ^1issues. Then you can use the MERGE option on BBD Indexer to add the ^1past six issues to your database. ^1We didn't know if folks would want to update BBD Indexer every single ^1month, but perhaps we will consider your idea of making this update ^1process an automated feature on the Main Menu. Stay tuned. ^1Monochrome Misery: ^1Tell your friend to try using the command "GO M" instead of "GO" when ^1running a Big Blue Disk issue. When he uses the SIMCGA program this ^1makes it possible for our graphics to be seen. However, our software ^1thinks that his computer also has the ability to display color. The ^1"GO M" command overrides this and tells our software that only ^1MONOCHROME is possible. ^1We hope you and your friend continue to enjoy your Big Blue Disk ^1subscriptions. ^1Editor |5ÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜ Dear Big Blue Disk: So far I enjoy SOME of the Big Blue Disk programs but NOT ALL. That is a shame because you might be able help me enjoy ALL of them to their fullest. You see we have an IBM compatible AT Jet (80286) computer with a Hercules Graphics card and monochrome monitor. We cannot enjoy, or even access many of your programs because they come up with that famous and, I might say, "irritating," slogan, "CGA REQUIRED." I would enjoy many of the Printshop items because I have a copy of the old Printshop. I don't know how to access the graphics. I would enjoy many of the games that display that CGA REQUIRED slogan but ......... Oh, well, such is life. Do you think you might get a few more programs that do not require CGA? I certainly hope so. I happen to be an old stick-in-the-mud type who has a very restricted budget. That means if I can't use the Big Blue Disk programs I must cancel out and fail to renew. Sorry. Sincerely, Charles E. Lockhart Port Ludlow, WA ^1Dear Mr. Lockhart: ^1Thank you for writing. Please don't cancel your subscription. We may ^1have a solution to your problem. If you run the SIMCGA program on ^1your system you may be able to enjoy all the programs that previously ^1produced the "CGA REQUIRED" slogan. ^1The SIMCGA program allows your computer to SIMulate CGA graphics. ^1However, you must have a true Hercules Graphics card. If you have a ^1cloned Hercules card (a "Herculone"), then there is only a 50-50 ^1chance that this program will work for you. ^1We will provide this program to you for FREE. Please call us at ^11-800-831-2694 and ask for the Big Blue Disk VIDEO UTILITIES disk. It ^1will be provided to you free of charge. ^1Also, as mentioned in the previous letter, use the "GO M" command to ^1run the Big Blue Disk issues so that our software will know that you ^1have a monochrome monitor. Good luck! ^1Editor |5ÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜ
