This computerized brainteaser is in that rubric. SUPER CUBE is a six-sided cube with nine colored blocks to a side. Your job is to arrange each side so that all blocks on each side have the same color. The time and move count is kept by the computer, and if it's good enough, you might make it onto the prestigious "Top Fifteen" list kept by the computer. You do not have to work the entire cube to make this list; if you work one side and this time is better than the last entry on the list you will be added to the list, bumping off the previous last-place player. On running this program, you will see the title screen followed by the main screen. Press F1 to start the game. Now you will see the six sides of the cube with the colors spread randomly over the six sides of the cube. The top left block on the first side will be flashing. The clock will start as soon as you make your first move. Select the block you wish to move by moving the flashing square to the block you want to move with the four arrow keys. Now use the following keys to move the block: F1 - this will cause all the blocks in this column to move up one place and the block at the top will move to the bottom of this column. (This amounts to rotating a column up.) F2 - this will cause all the blocks in this column to move down one place and the block at the bottom to move up to the top of this column. (This amounts to rotating a column down.) F3 - this will cause all the blocks in this row to move one place to the left and the block on the left will be moved to the right end of this row. (This amounts to rotating a row to the left.) F4 - this will cause all the blocks in this row to move one place to the right and the block on the right will be moved to the left end of this row. (This amounts to rotating a row to the right.) ESC - press this key if you want to end your game before completing the cube or to pause the game. After you press this key you will be asked if you want to quit. If you want to quit press `Y' or press `N' to resume your game. SUPER CUBE keeps up with the top fifteen times that anyone gets while trying to solve the cube. To make the CUBE EXPERTS list you must complete at least one side of the cube, and your time must be less than the fifteenth time on the current list. Since there will be no names on the CUBE EXPERTS list to begin with, the first few times you complete one or more sides you will make the list. But as time goes on and the list gets full it will get harder and harder to make the list. When you quit or complete the cube, your time will be compared to the list to see if you beat any of the times on it. If so, you will be shown the CUBE EXPERTS list and will be asked to enter your name. Type in your name and press the enter key. To leave this screen and return to the game just press the ESC key. If you just want to look at the CUBE EXPERTS list just press the F2 key from the main screen. If for some reason you ever want to erase all of the names from the CUBE EXPERTS list, press the CTRL key and the `E' at the same time while viewing the CUBE EXPERTS list. Note: You need a color monitor to use this program: with monochrome systems (even those supporting CGA graphics), there's no way to distinguish the different colored sides. To run this program outside the BIG BLUE DISK menu, type ^1CUBE^0. DISK FILES THIS PROGRAM USES: ^FCUBE.EXE ^FEXPERTS.CUB ^FBRUN30.EXE ^FRETURN30.EXE
