But when you do them with low-tech pencil and paper, you might wear out your eraser before you finally get everything right. Along comes your PC to the rescue, with a crossword you can solve without leaving any embarrassing traces of your past errors. Also, if you are the creative type, you can use this program to lay out your own crossword puzzles. If you make a good one, you can send it in to us, and we may feature it in a later issue. See elsewhere in the issue for details on submitting material; we pay cash for submissions we accept. PC Puzzle is menu-driven. Select appropriate options from the menus given. You should start by using the "Solve Puzzle" feature to load the default puzzle, appropriately named DEFAULT. (You can save additional files of puzzles in progress of being solved, or new puzzles you create, with other menu options; these can be loaded with the "Load" command in place of the default one.) Then choose "Solve Puzzle" to get into the tricky business of solving the puzzle, which you do by typing letters in their appropriate places. If you give up, there's a cheat feature to show you the whole puzzle in its solved configuration. To run this program outside BIG BLUE DISK, type ^1PUZZLE^0.
