BLAKE STONE: Aliens of Gold & Planet Strike

Multiplayer options: none!

Wolfenstein clone by Apogee. Published in 1993. As British Intelligence agent Blake Stone you have to clear corridors and buildings in order to get Dr Goldfire. Kind of a science fiction version of Wolfenstein. You can get the shareware version from my download page and cheats from my cheatpage. A follow up for this game was also published under the name "Planet Strike".

You can find information and cheats for Blake Stone in the Apogee FAQ.

CATACOMB ABYSS

Multiplayer options: none!

Since I've heard so many different versions by now as to the origins of this game, I've decided to write nothing about it... It's a game of the Wolfenstein type, published in 1992. You're some kind of a wizard who fires fireballs at the enemies. You can get the shareware version from my download page and cheats from my cheatpage.

CORRIDOR 7

Multiplayer options:
Network (ipx): "as many players as your network can handle" (?)
Modem: 2 players

Wolfenstein clone where you have to secure the place by killing alien invaders. Published by Capstone in 1994. Based on the Wolfenstein engine. Demo available from my download page. By the way, if you got this CD the way I got it (in a package with nine other disks), it's highly possible that you're having problems running it. The only way I could get the game to run was by choosing network-installation. It then works reasonably well when I run it (just ignore the messages about making sure that you have certain drivers loaders, and run it like an ordinary game). Weird, but it works (at least it does for me). Haven't seen any FAQs or add-on files. If you're just looking for the cheatcodes for this game you can take a look at my cheatpage.

Screenshot from Cybermage CYBERMAGE

Multiplayer options: none!

"Cybermage: Darklight Awakening" is a new game developed by Origin Systems. It's a kind of comic book adventure with you as the superhero. Believe it or not, but you're not supposed to kill everyone you meet! Some of them are not your enemies and might give you useful information. The makers of the game has tried to make the plot an important part of the game. Or as Warren Spector, executive producer, put it: "You run around and kill things, but there's a reason why you're running around killing things". You can get the demo from my download page. There is a page dedicated to this game:

Logo from Dark Forces DARK FORCES

Multiplayer options: none!

Lucas Art's epic 3D game in a Star Wars setting. DOOM but with a mission. You have to complete different missions (get things or save people), but the main thing is of course the action. Two things about this game that tends to irritate some people: no network capabilities; and you can only save your game between different levels. Otherwise a great game. You can download a demo from my download page. If you're just looking for the cheatcodes for this game you can take a look at my cheatpage. Here is some sites with more info on this game:

Here is an excellent FAQ (v 2.10) on Dark Forces (105k). It has all the information you need. The following newsgroup also exist:

DEPTH DWELLERS

Multiplayer options: none!

Published by Tri Soft in 1994. Well, it's not excactly my favourite game... You have to rescue slaves in a mine (?) and shoot all the bad guys. Another Wolfenstein clone, but you can actually crawl and jump a little in it. Also available with 3D glasses. The thing that makes this game stand out however is how corny your enemies look. I've never had the patience to finish this game because your enemies looks so stupid that you have to laugh at them (in ohter words: you die laughing). Unfortunately I don't think they are meant to look corny... There is a shareware version available from my download page. Haven't seen any FAQ or cheats for this one. Anyone out there with more information?

Screenshot from Descent DESCENT & DESCENT II

Multiplayer options:
Network (ipx): 2-8 players
Modem: 2 players
Serial: 2 players

Interplay Productions really tough 3D flyer. You fly a small vessel in tunnels and rooms. Fast and tough. Playable over network as well. Here is the FAQ on Descent. You can get the shareware version from my download page. If you're just looking for the cheatcodes for this game you can take a look at my cheatpage. Interplay has also released a playable demo for the upcoming Descent II! You can get it from my download page. You can also find some cheat codes for Descent 2 at my cheatpage. And here are some homepages:

There is also a couple of newsgroups on Descent:

DOOM

Screenshot from DOOM

Multiplayer options:
Network (ipx): 2-4 players
Modem: 2 players
Serial: 2 players

I don't think DOOM needs an introduction. If you don't know what DOOM is, you're new to this world... In that case, download the shareware version of DOOM and say goodbye to the world as you know it! You can download the shareware version and different patches and other files from my download page. If you're just looking for the cheatcodes for this game you can take a look at my cheatpage.

Here are a few adresses to sites with information on DOOM. There are numerous pages on DOOM on the Net, but you can reach most of them through the following links.

There is also a MAC-version of DOOM 2 out now. Since I don't own a MAC I don't know much about it yet (more information coming up soon!), but you can find more information at the following sites:

Hank Leukarts FAQ on DOOM (v6.666). Here you can find the answers to all your questions about DOOM and DOOMII:

One of the really great features of DOOM is the networking capabilities. You can find some information on this in Hank Leukarts FAQ. If you need more information on setting up networkgames you can take a look at the following documents:

Here are some newsgroups which deals with DOOM:

There is also a newsgroup where where you can get add-on files (wads etc.) for DOOM:

One of the most common questions about Doom II is "How do I get out of level 30, Icon of Sin?" (without cheating). And what is that sound at the beginning of the level? Well, here is my page on how to get out of level 30 (Icon of Sin) in DOOMII without cheating (with screenshots, lmps and an audio-file).

'Ultimate Doom' aka 'Doom Special Edition'

As some of you no doubt have seen, there is now something called Ultimate Doom out in the shops. So what's this then, a new Doom? No, actually it's the commercial (as opposed to registered) version of the original Doom. The only difference between the original registered Doom 1 and Ultimate Doom is that there is a fourth episode (consisting of 9 new levels) in Ultimate Doom. This episode is called 'Thy Flesh Consumed'. There is also some minor changes at the first level in the first episode. There has been a few questions and rumours circulating around this game which I would like to comment on:
- Ultimate Doom uses the same game engine as Doom (which means: no extra features)
- The version number shown during startup is 1.9 (same as the latest patch for Doom)
- There is the usual five skill levels (not seven, as somebody claimed)
- There is no par times for the new episode (as opposed to the three first episodes)
By the way, have you ever wondered how our favourite marine looks without a helmet and all that stuff? Well, then take a look at this picture from the closing scenes of the fourth episode.

ID Software has released a patchfiles which upgrades registered DOOM 1 v1.9 to The Ultimate DOOM. This patch is available for free! You can get this file from my download page.

Screenshot from Duke Nukem 3D DUKE NUKEM 3D

Multiplayer options:
Network: ipx or netbios, 8 players (4 players in the shareware version)
Modem: 2 players
Serial: 2 players

Yes, Duke Nukem 3D from 3D Realms has finally arrived. The shareware version has been released, but the full version probably won't be released until March. Really interesting game, especially all the small entertaining details. It's not excactly politically correct though (but then again, I guess few of the games on this page are). Well, download the game from my download page and judge for yourself. You can also find some cheat codes at my cheatpage. You can also find some information at the following site:

FURY3

Multiplayer options: none!

This is kind of weird... The first time I tried this one I thought "Hey, they've ported Terminal Velocity to Win95!"... But no, this isn't Terminal Velocity. It just looks like it; sounds like it; and is written by the same team! It seems like they wanted to take the game to Windows, and they thought Microsoft was the best way to do it. Well, here it is, everything I've written above on Terminal Velocity is true for this one too. You can get the demo from my download page. If you're just looking for the cheatcodes for this game you can take a look at my cheatpage.

Screenshot from Greed GREED

Multiplayer options:
Network (ipx): 2-8 players
Modem: 2 players
Serial: 2 players

"In Pursuit of Greed" is a new upcoming game published by Softdisk and developed by Channel 7. From what I've seen so far of it, it looks really interesting. The graphics look pretty cool. It also promises some quite interesting new features. What do you think of a concept such as an "asscam"? (it's actually a "camera" which allows you to see what's happening behind your back). Softdisk has released a new version of the demo now. You can get it from their site or directly from my download page. If you're looking for the cheatcodes for the demo you can take a look at my cheatpage. Here are a few links:

Screenshot from Heretic HERETIC

Multiplayer options:
Network (ipx): 2-4 players
Modem: 2 players
Serial: 2 players

From ID Software and Raven. Basically DOOM in a fantasy setting. There is however some enhancements in the game engine. You can look up and down, and you can even fly! You can get the shareware version (9 levels) from my download page. From this page you can also get patches and add on files for this game. Here is the FAQ on Heretic (90k). If you're just looking for the cheatcodes for this game you can take a look at my cheatpage.

The full commercial version of Heretic is supposed to be released soon. This will include the three episodes in the registered version plus two new episodes and additional deathmatch levels. The name of the procuct will be: Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders. Raven also has the following line of information on their page: "We have been informed by Id that all registered Heretic users will be able to get a patch containing the 2 new episodes at no additional cost!" Let's hope they're right...

The following newsgroups exists (if you cant get hold of these newsgroups, the game is also discussed in the newsgroups dealing with DOOM):

Here is some www-sites with information about Heretic:

Screenshot from Hexen HEXEN: Beyond Heretic

Multiplayer options:
Network (ipx): 2-4 players
Modem: 2 players
Serial: 2 players

This is a new game from Raven and ID Software. It has also been known as Heretic II. Among many other things you can choose what kind of class you are: fighter, cleric or mage. Depending on what class you choose you have different skills and caracteristics. The graphics and sounds are better than those in Heretic. You can get the demo from my download page. You can also find cheatcodes for Hexen from my cheatpage. There's also a FAQ available for this game.

There is patch coming up for Hexen. This will bring the game to version 1.1. Besides taking care of bugs and errors in the game it also brings up the network capabilities to 8 persons! There is also a data disk on it's way: Hexen: Death Kings of the Dark Citadel. This adds three new hubs to Hexen and one hub specially designed for deathmatch.

Screenshot from HiOctane HI OCTANE

Multiplayer options:
Network (netbios): 2-12 players

Intense 3D racing game from Bullfrog. A fast futuristic car race. Kill everything in sight and try to remain alive and on track. Lots of weapons and powerups. You can get the demo version from my download page. If you're just looking for the cheatcodes for this game you can take a look at my cheatpage.

Now there is also something called Hi-Octane Extra. This is som extra tracks and features for the full version of Hi-Octane. It includes three new tracks and the following features: Two player split screen challenge; Clone race; Death match; Hot seat challenge. So how do you get hold of this one then? Well, according to Bullfrog UK: "The PC CD Rev of HI Octane will be available on the Bullfrog XMAS DEMO CD sampler which will be available from major computer games retailers at the cost of 1.99".

H.U.R.L. aka SLOB ZONE

Multiplayer options: none!

This game seems to have published originally in 1994 by Deep River Publishing under the name Slob Zone 3D. It then resurfaced in 1995 under the name H.U.R.L. It seems to be a Wolfenstein clone but for kids (presumably). The point of the game is to clean the place up (literally...). You have to pick up garbage to gain money so you can buy weapons. Your weapons are waterballoons, soap and ?. Your enemies seems to be different animals; dirty pigs (again: literally) and the like. You "die" when you get too dirty (you can also find showers where you can clean yourself (at a cost)). Or to quote the text on the disk for Slob Zone 3D: "From Bob's bus station to the Hairball trailer park - Grab your water balloons and take on Bob's army of trash hurling cartoon critters". I suppose it teaches the kids to clean up, but I'd hate to think of what they think of pigs and the like after this game... Sorry, I haven't seen any cheatcodes or add-on files. There is a shareware version out now under the name of H.U.R.L. You can get it from my download page. I've heard some rumours about this one being ported to Win95 too.

Screenshot from Magic Carpet II MAGIC CARPET

Multiplayer options:
Network (netbios): 2-8 players

Bullfrog's actiongame released in 1994. You actually stand on a flying magic carpet and fight different enemies with spells. Really interesting idea that resulted in an interesting game. If you haven't seen it, take a look at the playable demo on my download page. You can find cheats for this game on my cheatpage. Due to an error in the game, level 50 is almost impossible to complete. Bullfrog has released a patch that fixes this. You can get this from my download page. There is also an add on for Magic Carpet that's called Hidden Worlds. This adds more levels to the game. You can find the cheatcodes for this one on my cheatpage. Magic Carpet II has also been released now. They've speeded up the engine and added more monsters and more varied missions. You can get a demo for this one also from my download page. You can find cheats for this game too on my cheatpage. There is also a couple of sites available where you can get loads of information on this game:

MECHWARRIOR 2

Multiplayer options:
Network: 2-8 players (Win95 version)
Modem: 2 players (dos and Win95 versions)

Mechwarrior 2 from Activision was one of the most popular releases of 1995. Originally based on the Battletech universe, the original Mechwarrior was published in the early 90's. The long avaited sequel was finally released in 1995. In this game you pilot a gigant robot belonging to one of two different clans, Wolf or Falcon. You make yourself a career within your clan by carrying out different missions fighting other Mechs. You can choose from up to 15 different types of Mechs and different weapon systems. You play the game with a first person view from the cockpit. You can also play against a human opponent over the modem. You can get a playable demo from my download page and you can find the cheatcodes on my cheatpage.

Activision has also released a version of Mechwarrior 2 for Windows 95. The biggest difference between this one and the dos-version is that networkplay is included in this version! There's also a Netmech add-on for the dos-version on it's way. This adds eightplayer network game to the dos-version. The latest word is that it'll be available sometime this spring...

There is also an expansion pack available called Ghost Bear's Legacy. This is a third clan called Ghost Bears. Besides new missions and scenarios this one adds 14 new Mech designs to master and a bunch of new weapons. You need Mechwarrior 2 to use the expansion pack, but it actually installs itself as a separate game. You can find cheats for this one as well on my cheatpage.

Here are a couple of sites where you can find more information on this game:

NITEMARE 3D

Multiplayer options: none!

A game of the Wolfenstein type, written by David P Gray and distributed by Walnut Creek. "Enter the house of the evil Dr Hamerstein aided by his hosts of nasty minions. He has captured your beloved sweetheart Penelope and imprisoned her in order to carry out evil experiments." In other words: run around and kill all ghosts and monster and save your sweetheart. You can get the shareware version from my download page.

OPERATION BODY COUNT

Multiplayer options: ?

Basically, I don't know anything about this game. It's obviously published by Capstone in 1994 (according to the credits in the demoversion). It looks like a sequel to Corridor 7 by the same company (and I have indeed been told by one of my "readers" that this is what it is). You can get the demo from my download page. I'll get back with more information as soon as I know any more.

Screenshot from Powerslave POWERSLAVE

Multiplayer options:
Network: 2-8 players
Modem: 2 players

New upcoming game from Playmates Interactive Entertainment. Built on the Build engine from 3D Realms. The action takes place in the Nile-valley in Egypt where you have to clear the palaces of all kind of evil forces. The demo looks kind of cool. You can get the demo version from my download page. You can also find some information on the following page:

QUAKE

Quake is a new upcoming game from ID Software. Judging from the test version it should be really interesting... Yes, the first playable test version of Quake from ID Software has finally been released! But please note: this is not a demo and not a sharewareversion! It's a three level playable test version without monsters that ID has released to test the video, sound and network capabilities. Should be great for deathmatch though. It also requires a rather heavy machine... Please read the Readme.txt file before downloading the game. You can get this test version from my download page. Here are a few sites where you can find information on Quake:

There are a couple of newsgroups about the game:

QUARANTINE

Multiplayer options: none!

Released by Gametek in 1994. You drive a cab in a closed city of criminals and desperate people. Your game is survival... You have to deliver people and packages to earn money so that you can buy heavier weapons and armour just to survive. Really cool soundtrack on the CD, anyone out there who happen to know which groups are on the CD? (even though I really like this game I think I've played the disk more in my audio cd-player than in my computer cd-player). There is a playable demo available from my download page. You can get the levelcodes from my cheatpage. They have also released a sequel to this game called Road Warrior. You can find some info on Quarantine on the following page:

RADIX: BEYOND THE VOID

Multiplayer options:
Network : yes, ? players
Modem: 2 players
Serial: 2 players

A new game written by Neural Storm Entertainment and published by Epic. You get to fly a experimental fighter in the year of 2148. You have to finish different missions with different objectives, but as always, it's mostly a matter of blowing everything up. To me it feels like a mixture of Doom and Descent. The first episode of the game is published as shareware, and it's available from my download page. You can find cheats for this game on my cheatpage. There is a FAQ available for this game. Here's a couple of pages with more information on this game:

Screenshot from Rise of the Triad RISE OF THE TRIAD (ROTT)

Multiplayer options:
Network (ipx): 2-11 players
Modem: 2 players
Serial: 2 players

Rise of the Triad (aka ROTT) is 3D game from Apogee. There's lots of cool missile weapons in this game. It's also great for network games, with a number of different options for the network rules. Finally there is also a really good FAQ available for Rise Of The Triad (177k). You can get the shareware version from my download page. If you're just looking for the cheatcodes for this game you can take a look at my cheatpage. You can also find some information on the following pages:

Screenshot from Roadwarrior ROADWARRIOR

Multiplayer options: none!

This is the sequel to Quarantine. Published by Gametek. If you liked Quarantine, you're gonna love this one! (Well, actually, perhaps you won't... Since I wrote this I've recieved letters from some diehard Quarantine gamers who don't really like this game. I'll get back to this later...) And if you didn't like Quarantine, you just might like this one anyway... You can download a demo from my download page. You can find a cheat for this one onmy cheatpage.

SLIPSTREAM 5000

Multiplayer options:
Network (ipx): 2-8 players
Modem: 2 players
Serial: 2 players

Intense 3D racing game developed by Gremlin Interactive. Fly a Slipstream anti-grav vehicle round ten different tracks trying to win the race, and at the same time shoot down you competitors (and trying to avoid getting shot down). Lots of different weapons and powerups. You can get the demo version from my download page and cheats from my cheatpage. If you're looking for hints for the game you can take a look at this hints and cheats document.

Screenshot from Strife STRIFE

New upcoming game from Rogue Entertainment. A RPG/Action game based on an improved version of DOOM's engine. The levels are supposed to be seamlessly integrated to represent a single world of connected maps. You should be able to go back to levels where you've already been. Rogue Entertainment has released a demo of it now. You can get it from my download page. You can find some cheatcodes on from my cheatpage. Here you can get more information:

Screenshot from System Shock SYSTEM SHOCK

Multiplayer options: none!

Although really more of a RPG than an actiongame, this one is enough actionoriented to make it to this page. Published by Origin in 1994. You're a hacker caught hacking into classified information. You're given the option to go to jail or to work for the corporation you hacked your way into. You decide to work for the corporation and are "cybernetically enhanced", meaning you get a computer interface implanted. Once you wake up everything is a mess and your mission is to survive and find out what has happened. Like I said it's very much a RPG, but there's also lots of weapons and action. You can get the demo version from my download page A few sites with information on this game:

Screenshot from Tekwar TEKWAR

Multiplayer options:
Network (ipx): 2-16 players
Modem: 2 players
Serial: 2 players

This game is supposedly based on a novel and television series of the same name written by William Shatner (I can't judge for myself since this tv series never made it to Sweden...). Shatner even appears in the game. It's a new game that has been released by Capstone. You take the role as a futuristic cop out to stop drug lords. The game is built on the Build engine licensed from 3D Realms (the same engine that Duke Nukem 3D is supposed to use) You can get a demo for this one from my download page. You can find cheats for this game on my cheatpage. One word of warning though: the demo ran really jerky on my machine, but the finished version of the game runs a lot smoother. There is a page where you can get some info on this game:

Screenshot from Terminal Velocity TERMINAL VELOCITY

Multiplayer options:
Network (ipx): 2-8 players
Modem: 2 players
Serial: 2 players

3D Realms 3D flyer. Fly through different worlds and shoot anything that moves (and anything that doesn't move). You can download the shareware version and patches from my download page. Here is the FAQ for TV. You can get the shareware version from my download page. If you're just looking for the cheatcodes for this game you can take a look at my cheatpage. You can also get some information at the following sites:

Screenshot form Terminator TERMINATOR: FUTURE SHOCK

Multiplayer options: ?

John Connor is back... Well, this is a new game from Bethesda Softworks. Los Angeles sometime in the future: you have to try to save the last survivors of the nuclear holocaust. Lots of robots and stuff to kill. You can get a betaversion of the demo for this one from my download page. It's dark, spooky, and has a lot of action. You can find cheats for this game on my cheatpage.

Screenshot from Witchaven WITCHAVEN

Multiplayer options:
Network (ipx): 2-16 players
Modem: 2 players
Serial: 2 players

This is a new game by Capstone. There has been quite a lot of hype about this game. Kind of a medieval setting. Use swords, bow and arrows and other stuff. Well, you can judge for yourself, because there is a demo available. You can get it from my download page. You'll find some cheatcodes at my cheatpage Capstone also has a webpage available for this game:

Screenshot from Wolfenstein 3D WOLFENSTEIN 3D & SPEAR OF DESTINY

Multiplayer options: none!

The original one. At least as far as I am concerned it was Wolfenstein 3D that started this whole 3D-gaming thing. Written by ID Software (ID as in DOOM; and yes the programmers of Wolfenstein was John Carmack and John Romero) and distributed in 1992 by Apogee. I can't resist the temptation of quoting from the intro (from the shareware-version):
"You stand over the guard's body, grabbing frantically for his gun. You're not sure if the other guards heard his muffled scream. Deep in the belly of a Nazi dungeon, you've only a knife, a gun, and your wits to aid your escape. Just a few weeks ago you were on a reconnaissance mission of extreme importance. You were to infiltrate the Nazi fortress and find the plans for Operation Eisenfaust. Captured in your attempt, you were taken to their prison, and awaited your execution. Only you know where the plans are kept, and the Allies will face a great defeat if you don't escape! You must face the horrors of the prison keep known as Wolfenstein. Captain William J. (B.J.) Blazkowicz, you've got a gun and eight floors of hell to get through. "
Need I say more? You get the picture... kill all nazis and escape. You can get the shareware version (10 levels) from my download page. Here you can also get the source code for the game. If you're just looking for the cheatcodes for this game you can take a look at my cheatpage.
A follow up to this game was also published. It's title was Spear of Destiny. A demo for this game is available from my download page.

There is a FAQ available for Wolfenstein 3D (including Spear of Destiny) (119k). You can also find some information in the general FAQ about Apogee. For more information on Apogee games, se the bottom of this page. There is also a homepage for Wolfenstein 3D:

APOGEE

If you're playing any of Apogee's games (Rise of the Triad, Whacky Wheels, Mystic Towers, Hocus Pocus, Blake Stone, Alien Carnage, Wolfenstein 3D, Bio Menace, Cosmo, Major Stryker, Commander Keen, Monster Bash, Raptor, Duke Nukem etc.) take a look in the FAQ that deals with Apogee games (158k). Here you find cheats and other information. There is also a separate FAQ for Commander Keen (21k).

There are at least two different sites where can get lots of information on Apogee's games, and download the sharewareversions:

There is also a newsgroup on Apogee's games:

Other sites about computergames in general and 3D games in particular:
