Clara M. Eagle Gallery, Murray State University

The Clara M. Eagle Fine Arts Gallery at Murray State University is located at the corner of 15th and Olive streets on the campus of Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky. The gallery is on the sixth floor of the Doyle Fine Arts Building.

Together, the Eagle and Curris Center galleries encompass 8,292 square feet of exhibition space and support areas. That space includes four Calloway Countydistinct exhibition areas: the main-level Eagle Gallery and the Foyer Gallery on the sixth floor of the Fine Arts Center, the upper-level Eagle Gallery in the Fine Arts Center, and the Curris Center Gallery in the Curris Student Center.

These galleries host a changing array of exhibits throughout the year, offering dramatic and exciting multi-level exhibition spaces. An integral part of the Department of Art, the Eagle Gallery serves as a unique source for experiencing fine art firsthand. It is home to two national juried shows: the Magic Silver, a biennial photography competition now in its 28th year, and the Kentucky National, a national juried show open to all media, with an emphasis on new media.

Recent exhibitions in the main gallery have featured contemporary art from all regions of the United States, African art, contemporary tapestries from Spain, functional and nonfunctional ironwork, and contemporary woodworking. In addition to changing shows, Murray State holds about 1,200 artworks in its permanent collection, from photography to sculpture. The Eagle Gallery is also the site for the annual spring student art exhibition sponsored by the Organization of Murray Art Students. At this highlight of each academic year, students receive numerous cash awards for artistic excellence and outstanding scholarship.
