ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ GETTING HELP IN DOSHELP ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ DOSHELP is very easy to use and doesn't require much help. DOSHELP has an introduction that explains how to use the program. Take a minute to read this material when you first enter DOSHELP. Instructions can also be called up as HELP from any screen in the program by pressing the F1 key. ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ DOSHELP PARAMETERS ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ DOSHELP can be controlled in several ways by information that follows it on the DOS command line. These pieces of information are called parameters. DOSHELP parameters are: DOSHELP /P DRIVE:\PATH (disk path) DOSHELP /C COLOR VALUES (10 digits) DOSHELP /Q QUIET KEYBOARD (ON or OFF) (/Q shuts off a Mouse when ON.) ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ DOSHELP PARAMETER MENU: DOSHELP ? ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ ~~~~~~~~~ Enter "DOSHELP ?" at the DOS prompt to bring up the DOSHELP parameter menu. This menu provides intructions for using the parameters and reports on the parameter values currently set. ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ KEYBOARD NOTES ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ The DOSHELP menus works as fast as the keyboard repeat rate. Files named SPEED.BAT and QUICKEYS.COM have been included in the original archived version of DOSHELP to help you speed your keyboard up. SPEED.BAT speeds up keyboards on AT type machines. SPEED.BAT needs to work with the DOS DEBUG program - so make certain it can find DEBUG.COM! QUICKEYS.COM speeds up PC/XT keyboards. QUICKEYS can be run more than once for even faster results. If you like these files include them in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to speed up the keyboard whenever your PC is turned on. SPECIAL NOTE ON 12 FUNCTION KEY KEYBOARDS: DOSHELP beeps on some keyboards with 12 function keys when the "inverted T" cursor keys are used. To avoid this, use the numeric keypad cursor keys instead, or use the DOSHELP /Q parameter by entering DOSHELP /Q ON at the DOS prompt. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ DISK NOTES ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ DOSHELP takes up less than 150K of disk space and uses about 130K of memory. It is not memory resident. The sole purpose of MAKEHELP.EXE is to "uncrate" DOSHELP and several ancillary files. You can save space on your disk by deleting MAKEHELP.EXE after it creates DOSHELP. DOSHELP actually consists of the DOSHELP.EXE and DOSHELP.DAT files. Copy these files to install DOSHELP on another drive. In order to run the program from any location, make sure that DOSHELP.EXE is on the system's search PATH. You can view this PATH by typing "PATH" at the DOS prompt. DOSHELP.EXE reads information on disk from DOSHELP.DAT. This process is quite fast on a hard disk but you may experience a slight lag when reading from a floppy disk drive. DOSHELP always finds DOSHELP.DAT if they are located in the same directory. If a problem occurs, use the /P parameter to tell DOSHELP where to find DOSHELP.DAT.
