CD-Rom Uploading, How do I do it? By Robert Manci Becuase many people ask about this feature, I have built a FAQ on some of the more confusing options. Please note, this is not the only way to upload CD-Roms, however it works for me. I have 10 CR-Roms online at a time and I have been doing this since TG_3.02. Do you have these questions? 1. I cant seem to upload my CD-Roms using the TG Doc's? 2. I try to upload the cd and have the paths set correctly in the file manager but TG tells me there is nothing to upload. 3. My CD-Rom uploads ok but, I don't get any file descriptions. Ok to start with run "INDEX BUILD FILES", you can to this from your main TG directory and type it just the way I have it above. Be sure to close all open nodes first. If you are sure all files on your CD-Rom have "FILEID.DIZ" internally, then use this method. This method is good for both TG_3.02 and TG_3.09. 1) Go to your file manager and insert a new area. 2) Go to modify your new area. 3) Set it up simular to the example I am about to give. (For this FAQ I will only need to show you options A-E of the new area) A. DESCRIPTION CD_7 DOS <- I have 10 CD-Roms online B. FILEMANE NDOS <- I use the drive path as the first letter C. *.FA? PATH C:\BBS\FILES\10\ <- I never put more than 100 files in C. *.FB? PATH <-TG_3.02 this Dir, thus the next one will be \11 D. FILES PATH N:\CDR22\ <- Self Explanitory E. CD-ROM MEDIA NO <- Set this to "NO" 4) Do this for each CD-Rom directory, changing A and B for each directory, 5) I advise changing option "C" for every 100 files, Note if you are using TG_3.02, for each dirctory three "3" File names will be created, for TG_3.09 two "2" file names will be created, if you use TG_3.09, and use "FA2FB AND FB2FA" four "4" files names will be created. Keep this in mind when setting up Option "C" and make new directories accordingly so as not to exceed 100 file per *.FA? or *.FB? Path. The reason is access speed will be greatly enhanced. 6) Exit the file manager. 7) Upload your files. I would recommend that you upload each directory separately, because of a known bug that will dupe up your other files already loaded. (Believed to be fixed in TG 3.10 current beta series). 8) After you have uploaded everything go back to the File Manager and change option "E" to "YES", I "DO NOT" Enable CD-Rom label matching, this is up to you however and I suggest you play with it to find out what works best for you. If you do not have "FILEID.DIZ" in all your archives or are not sure, use this second method. You will need a 3rd party program such as "FILES2TG". This is a great program and works well, it uses the "FILES.BBS" on your CD-Rom to inport file descriptions. Follow the program's readme.doc and set up the program. Did you run INDEX BUILD FILES yet? 1) If you are using TG_302 skip step #2. 2) Run FA2FB. 3) Go to your file manager and insert a new area. 4) Go to modify your new area. 5) Set it up simular to the example I am about to give. (For this FAQ I will only need to show you options A-E of the new area) A. DESCRIPTION CD_7 DOS <- I have 10 CD-Roms online B. FILEMANE NDOS <- I use the drive path as the first letter C. *.FA? The reason is enhanced speed of access. 6) You may want to write down each name you specified in option "B", this will come in handy later. 7) Exit the file manager. 8) In the directory that "FILES2TG" is in, use a command line like "FILES2TG /B"NDOS" /X /C /V /O 7) Upload your files, I would recommend that you upload each directory separately, because of a known bug that will dupe up your other files already loaded. (This is believed to be fixed in TG 3.10 as beta test shows) 8) Now go to the BBS and make sure you disable Pausing from the personal menu screen. 9) From the file menu "/V" validate all your new files. 10) After you have validated everything go back to the File Manager and change option "E" to "YES", I "DO NOT" Enable CD-Rom label matching, this is up to you however and I suggest you play with it to find out what works best for you. 11) If you are using TG_302 skip step #12. 12) Run "FB2FA" from the TG command line. A couple of notes, *.FA? Path is created by TG_3.09, *.FB? PATH is created by TG_3.02. There are more ways to upload CD-Roms, but this one works well for me. A bit of thanks, (a whole lot) goes to Tim Strike, Thanks Tim, The Beta and Alfa Teams, and to the programers that bring up great 3rd party programs for Telegard.
