Survival Manual II - Updated 10/21/89 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Within the Complex... Front Gates ~~~~~~~~~~~ The first area of the Complex is known as the Front Gates. Here, is the common intersection which leads to other areas of the building. In the Front Gates area, you first have the choices to go to these places: 1) Recruiting Chambers [FG] 2) User Barracks / : \ 3) Communications Post [BA][CP][HQ] 4) Head Quarters : Recruiting Chambers ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is the place where "races" and attributes are assigned to the new users. Here, you will be documented with the descriptions of the four different races. The four races are Humans, Mutants, Aliens, and Cyborgs. Each separate race has different characteristics which affect your final status. Choose a race that will best fit your character (Hint: The higher the attributes, the better off you will be!). You may recruit as many times as needed. After you select a race and okay your choice, you have completed the configuration with your character and are set to go. User Barracks ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The barracks are where all the users are stationed, when not logged onto the system. Here, they rest and sleep and regain their strengths for the arduous adventures in the wastelands. When a user enters the Barracks, he/she has an option to do the following: (B) Bulletin (C) Check Status (E) Enter Wasteland (S) Synchronize Time (U) User Interaction The B)ulletin feature is mainly used for the viewing of local announcement directed toward the users or for information of any sort. This bulletin may change every other week or so. If no Bulletin exists, the News will display. The C)heck command can be used to view your characters attributes and inventory. Press 'E' enter the wastelands. New Users, (or those that have not recruited yet or have not been validated), will not be allowed pass the guard at the wastelands gate. Post/Call ratios are also checked here. The S)ynchronize Time function basically brings you to a menu which allows you to view your time remaining. Also, you have the option of viewing the Frontier Log. This log contains information such as, who called when, what that user did, and whether he/she is in the wasteland or Complex, etc. User Interaction Menu ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ B) Storage Bank C) Check status E) Experience To Go U) User Config V) View other user R) Roster T) Top 10 Survivors G) Give Crystals S) Steal Crystals The Storage B)ank is available for almost every user to use. You may deposit water crystals in which they become stored in the bank for use later. Stored crystals receive an interest rate each day. You may only store up to one million crystals in the bank though. Also, you may withdraw stored crystals. Loans may be taken out from the bank. The maximum loan prices are adjusted according to your level. All loans must be paid off within seven days or the bank will repossess all weapons/equipment that you have. The P)ayoff function will allow you to return the crystals that you have borrowed. Once you fail to repay a loan, the bank will refuse to do any sort of business with you. Pressing 'E' with display your "Experience to Go" until the next level. It will show you your current level, experience, the next level's experience, and the difference between the two. The U)ser config function allows you to change your name, change your pass- word, turn Expert on/off, view your Post/Call ratio, or to have your character commit suicide. The Expert mode is for the more experience users who know their way around the Complex and wastelands. V)iew other user allows you type see the status of another user that is stationed in the Barracks. You will not be able to view other persons that are located in the wastelands. The R)oster feature lists out all of the users on the system (whether in the Barracks or Wastelands). If you forget a person's name, R)oster might help you to find it again. The T)op Ten Survivors feature displays the top ranked recruits sorted by Experience Points, Level, Crystals, Hit Points, or Total Kills. The M)orgue shows a listing of all those persons that have been killed. G)iving Crystals allows the transfer of water crystals to another recruit. S)tealing Crystals is used for stealing water crystals from another person. Communications Post ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This area strictly deals in communications. Your options are: E) Electronic Mail P) Post Messages R) Read Messages The E)-Mail system is used for the sending of private messages to other users via S)end. Users can also receive messages from other users and reply. A F)eedback option allows you to leave mail directly to the sysop. P)osting Messages involves the user typing a small letter in which all other users will be able to read and respond. R)eading Messages simply displays all new messages that have been left. The message range is from 1 to 100. You can C)hange your message pointer back if you missed a few messages or the pointer is set over 100. Head Quarters ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The main controls are located in HQ. I) Information Cabinet T) Treatment/Healings S) Supply Room !) Page Sysop The I)nfo Cabinet (in which you are using now) contains different text files useful for the users to read. The T)reatments room is used to help cure you of any radiation contamination. The cost of each treatment depends on the amount of radiation that has been acquired by the user. The treatment cures all radiation to 0%. Another option is to heal hit-points. Each hit-point costs 100 crystals to heal. The S)upply Room offers 16 different weapons, 4 types of armour, 11 types of ammunition, and 11 pieces of equipment. You buy each with water crystals.
