How do I start out once the Prince Buffoon has disappeared?

The main key to this scene is to annoy Tazaar in as many ways as you can.

Start by drawing on the portrait with a pencil.  Tazaar will throw a
boomerang at you, and you need to get that.

Perhaps you should try blocking the boomerang's path.
