New York Jets defensive lineman Dennis Byrd was seriously injured in a November 1992 game, leaving him partially paralyzed. 
  However, Byrd fought back. And Sept. 5 he walked onto the field at East Rutherford, N.J. for the toss of the coin as thousands of Jets fans cheered.
