In Preston, England, Robert Thompson and Jon Venables were convicted Nov. 25 of murdering two-year-old James Bulger after luring the toddler away from his mother in a Liverpool shopping mall. The child's body was found several days after he disappeared. He had been beaten to death and his body thrown on a railroad track and run over. Each of the boys blamed the other. The killing, which shocked Britain, was called a "cunning and very wicked" murder by the judge who said the two boys would be behind bars for "a very long time." The boys were 10-years-old when the crime occurred but were 11 by the time of the sentencing.
