Are you sick of losing at a Shoot 'Em Up Construction Kit (SEUCK) game? Would you like to have infinite lives not only for you (using the editing program) but also for a friend? If so, this text file is just what you're looking for! What we're going to do is alter the loader program. This is the file that is named EXACTLY the same as the .ALL file in the "edit_files" subdirectory (but without the .ALL and NOT the title screen, which also resides in the "edit_files" subdirectory). Technically, you only need one copy of this program to run all of your games - just keep renaming it to match the game you would like to play. Deleting extraneous copies is a good way of saving disk space. Regardless, make a backup copy of this program before trying this modification, just in case! My loader program is exactly 44,620 bytes long. If yours isn't, look for one that is. You may still try this hack by looking for the search string, but it may not work and can result in a disaster for your system. Now that the warning is over, use a hexadecimal file editor (such as NewZAP) to look into the program. You're looking for the hex string "5379". You will probably need to enter it as "$5379" in the search requester. Anyway, if you're using NewZAP, you'll find three occurrences of this value in sector 46. Ignore them - continue the search. You'll find two of them in sector 52. This is it! Just to be careful, before we change anything let's ensure that what you see is what I see. This will also allow people whose file is not the same size to possibly benefit from this hack. I see "5379 00006382" for the first match and "5379 00006384" for the second. If this is identical to what you have, or you find this in a nonstandard file size, we can try to change it. Replace both instances of "5379" with "4A79". Save your edits. What we have just done is altered a heinous decrement (when you're killed) to a harmless test instruction. Therefore, you (and your partner) will never lose any lives! That's it! This should allow you to complete ANY SEUCK game that confronts you, given enough time. Some of them are well worth the effort. If you'd ever like to revert to the old ways, simply use your backup copy of the loader or "un-edit" what we've just done. <++++++++> Just for the heck of it, I've listed below some information on all the SEUCK games that I am aware of. I'd appreciate hearing about any additional games not on the list, or updated author names or whatnot. However, the game continues as if you were playing. I'm not sure exactly what causes this - some incompatibility with 2.04 (when in doubt, always blame the operating system first) or (!) the hack itself. I'd like to hear from people if this happens to you - what game, when and possibly the circumstances leading up to it. It will help when I track down what could be causing the problem. In any case, if this does happen, just sit back and enjoy a tour through the rest of the game or try and play again. So far, it doesn't appear to be consistently repeatable.
