Technology Description:

This new PC architecture represents true system-design innovation and intelligent integration. Cyrix did not simply combine external logic into fewer chips. Cyrix redesigned external logic into fewer gates and functions. The result allows for fewer chips built around a two-part solution: the MediaGX MMX; Enhanced processor and its Cx5520 companion chip.

Cyrixs MediaGX processor generates cost savings without sacrificing system performance. Cyrix has taken a different path in designing the processor and chipset. The core 80x86 logic required from the processor, graphics, memory, and audio subsystems were redesigned and then integrated in the most efficient manner. At the same time, system performance and compatibility were never compromised. The result is a breakthrough architecture that delivers a dramatic convergence of multimedia technology in a notebook.

The MMX-enhanced MediaGX; processor represents true system-design innovation and intelligent integration. By merging graphics, audio, memory control and the PCI interface right into the CPU, this revolutionary PC architecture delivers powerful, easy-to-use multimedia technology at an affordable price.

The more processing that occurs on the CPU itself, the more efficiently the PC system performs. The reason for integration is simple: In traditional computer designs, the CPU processes data at the megahertz of the chip, while the bus that moves data to and from other components operates at only half that speed, or even less. This means that data movement to and from the CPU takes more time -- and the potential for data "stalls" increases.

Cyrix eliminated this bottleneck with MediaGX; technology. By putting multimedia and system functions right onto the processor itself, MediaGX; technology delivers advanced system features in an integrated processor solution for less cost than traditional PC designs -- without sacrificing performance.

Key Supporting Features:

Integrated Solution:
Core logic from the processor, graphics, memory, and audio subsystems are all integrated together.

Faster Memory Performance:

With XpressRAM; technology, the MediaGX; processor avoids the delays of data moving between the external cache and main memory. By placing the memory controller onto the chip, data lookups move directly to SDRAM and back to the CPU, eliminating the need for external cache.

XpressRAM; ensures maximum memory performance. Software applications process just as fast as they do on more traditional PC systems that cost more, and benefit from the latest in memory technology -- SDRAM.

Great Audio Performance:

XpressAUDIO; technology takes over the operations of a separate sound card. Compatible with industry-standard sound cards, it generates all sound directly from the processor set to deliver high fidelity, true-to-life audio performance.

XpressAUDIO; features ensure clear, crisp, full-sounding acoustics without the performance and compatibility conflicts that often occur between audio and other components.
