Technology Description: The Presario 1200 and 1600 Series portable computers come with state of the art battery technologies. Depending on the model, it will include either an Enhanced Smart Nickel Metal Hydride (ENiMH) or a Smart Lithium Ion (LiIon) battery.
Smart Technology Smart battery technology provides more accurate battery life and a charge indicator on the battery for instant charge status when the battery is out of the computer. Smart batteries have charge indicators that inform the end user how much battery charge is left in the battery. The Smart battery that comes with the Presario 1200 or 1600 Series portable computer has the charge indicator on the battery itself that will show how much battery charge is left, in increments of 25%. This technology also will display charge status on the LCD display and the Window 95 task bar in increments of 10%. Enhanced NiMH and Lithium Ion Standard NiMH batteries have capacities of 24 watt hours versus Enhanced NiMH batteries of up to 32 watt hours. Lithium Ion batteries have capacities of 34-36 watt hours, 12% longer charge, and are lighter than NiMH batteries. Watt hours are calculated as follows:
Watt Hour = 1 watt of power for one hour The Enhanced Smart (NiMH) Battery provides better battery life at lower cost versus standard NiMH batteries. They also have better ability for controlled charging, discharging, and status life.* Enhanced Smart (NiMH) batteries, like LiIon batteries, DO NOT have a "memory effect" and will fully charge every time. It is recommended that both NiMH and LiIon batteries are fully discharged and then fully recharged periodically for better battery life. *Actual battery performance will vary depending on the computers Power Management settings, system components, options, applications used, AND OPERATING ENVIRONMENT.
