Payne 1995 Magic Square can best be described as a 2 dimentional Rubik's Cube. I first came upon the game on a hand-held computer game that sold in the late 1970's as a "9 games in one" system. The actual device was a red box with an on-off switch and 9 buttons that each had a LED in the center. The most recent incarnations I have seen appeared in "The 7th Guest" as the "9 caskets puzzle" and also in the children's educational game of "The Island of Dr. Brain." Rather than tell you the secrets of the game, I will let you discover the challenge of solving the puzzle yourself. The game itself is challening enough to keep your interest, short enough to play when you have a spare minute, and not too difficult as to be frustrating. To install MagicSq(ua)r(e), copy the Mjksqr.OPA file to your /APP directory. From the system screen, press Psion-I. Highlight Mjksqr.OPA and press Enter. After starting the program, the user is presented with a beginning level puzzle. The solution sought at the beginning level is always the same: A hollow square. Advanced play has a random target solution and a random starting point. In ether, the correct solution can be achieved by pressing anywhere from 1 to 9 keys, with the average being 5. Your problem: Which ones? The keys that affect the puzzle are listed on the 9 buttons displayed on the screen. The correct solution is displayed as an icon to the right of the puzzle. The game works like most Psion Apps in that the menu key brings up a menu and the help key gives help. If you have problems, complaints, bugs, kudos, whatever, you may reach me via internet at hpayne@GDEsystems.com or possibly via the usenet group comp.sys.psion. Have fun, but don't get caught playing by your boss: I assume no responsibility. BTBB*
