GSM Network In Montenegro Goes Live
Promonte GSM claimed the official launch of their GSM network in
Montenegro on August 2,
announcing that the network will cover most regions of the country by
December 1996. The
Promonte GSM consortium - consisting of Telenor AS, the PTT of Montenegro
and a number of
Greek investors - was awarded a 20-year licence to build and operate the
GSM service in
October 1995. The consortium claims around USD11 million has been
invested in the networks so
far.

Telenor Consortium Launches Montenegro's First GSM Service
ProMonte GSM, the consortium of Norway's Telenor, PTT of Montenegro and a
number of
Greek investors have launched Montenegro's first digital mobile telecoms
service. The GSM
network went live in the capital city of Podgorica (Titograd) and
surrounding towns and coastal
centres at the beginning of this month. By December this year it is to be
extended to cover
northern parts of the region.
