TECHNICAL BULLETIN Bulletin 1-274 September 10, 1990 Patches and Enhancements Relating to IBM PS/2 Hardware Several NetWare patches and enhancements have been released on NetWire relating to IBM PS/2 hardware. The following list identifies the problem area, describes the patch and/or enhancement, and provides, in parentheses, the filename on NetWire to download. PS/2 SCSI driver. IBMSCSI.OBJ (dated 7-31-90) supports both caching and non caching PS/2 SCSI controllers. This driver is for Advanced and SFT NetWare 286 v2.15 Rev. C. (PS2286.ZIP) PS/2 SCSI driver for ELS II. This archive file includes several operating system and utility files that have the PS/2 SCSI driver linked in. IBMSCSI.OBJ v1.02 (dated 7-31-90) supports both caching and non-caching PS/2 SCSI controllers. This driver is for ELS NetWare Level II v2.15 Rev. C. (ESCI.ZIP) 32-bit memory board and cold boot loader. The IBM PS/2 80386 memory board software destroys the NetWare cold boot loader stored at Track 0 on a file server. Previous to this patch, NetWare had to be booted from diskette when using the memory board on a file server (see Technical Bulletin 1-263). This patch allows a netware operating system to be cold-booted when the IBM memory board is installed in the server. This patch applies to Advanced and SFT NetWare 286 v2.15 Rev C. (IBMMEM.ZIP) Note: This patch is implemented using the patch applicator ZAPOBJ. However, this patch cannot be used in conjunction with other patches applied with ZAPOBJ. UPS monitoring on Model 70. This patch modifies the NetWare operating system to allow IBM PS/2 Model 70 computers with Type II keyboard controllers to work properly with a UPS. This patch applies to Dedicated versions of Advanced, SFT, TTS, and ELS Level II NetWare v2.15 Rev C. (UPSM70.ZIP) Note: This patch cannot be implemented on the same system as the 80386 PS/2 memory board patch. (IBMMEM.ZIP) Model 30-286 driver. This file includes fixes to the problem of running NetWare on PS/2 Model 30-286 machines on Seagate drives. These drives operate somewhat differently from other drives shipped with the machine. The result of these differences is the error message Abend: Unable to reset PS/2 internal disk controller. This message, or a similar disk-access message, is displayed whenever the disk is accessed by the operating system or utilities. These patches apply to the PS/2 Model 30-286 driver for ELS I v2.12, ELS II v2.15, and Advanced and SFT NetWare 286 v2.15. (M30PAT.ZIP) Model 70 A21 anomaly. Some problems have arisen running NetWare on a Model 70 A21 with the 121 Mb ESDI drive. Intermittent errors and server "hangs" have been experienced primarily with ARCnet NICs, but sometimes with other topologies. The problems stem from a controller-setting routine that is not given enough time to perform its function. This problem can be avoided by using the Reference diskette to set the Preempt parameter to "Disabled."
