Hardware Selection Tips

Identify user functions - If you need a server, buy a machine designed as a server from the ground up, not just a fast desktop.

Select the software - Determine the software to be used on the computer and match the equipment to the hardware recommendations of the applications.

What about my current equipment? - Does it meet the hardware requirements?  Is it dependable and reliable equipment?  Is it expandable?

Should I upgrade current equipment? - Ttrying to upgrade older equipment can often cost more than buying new.  New purchases also come with a full original warranty.

Total Cost of Ownership issues - The initial purchase price of the computer is only 20% of the total lifecycle cost.  Other costs after the purchase are upgrading, software purchases, maintenance, and training to mention a few.  Compaq works to lower your total cost of ownership.

Buying vs. Leasing Equipment - Leasing computer equipment has many advantages.  Tax advantages, technology upgrades, no disposal fees, and equipment purchase options at lease end are just a few of them.  For more information about leasing, see Leasing 101.
