Xara plug-in 1.5 full release ============================= This is the first full release of the plug-in for Xara files on the Web. The archve that you have just downloaded will automatically run setup by default - if you have chosen not to do this them you will need to run the program SETUP.EXE in this directory to install the plug-in. Normally you will have been asked a series of questions about where you want the plug-in to be installed, and the plug-in will already be installed on your system. Using the plug-in to view files on the Web ========================================== If you open a Web page with an embedded Xara, CMX or CDR (version 3, 4 or 5) file, the plug-in will load and display the file. Alternatively, you can drag a file to the browser window to view it - it will then open full screen. The file will open with the zoom tool selected by default - the pointer should resemble a magnifying glass with a plus sign in the middle. Click with the left mouse button to zoom in, or drag out an area to view that area. Shift-click to zoom out again. If the pointer is over an embedded URL (only available in Xara's new development file format) the pointer will change to a pointing hand, and the status bar will display the URL pointed to. Clicking with the left mouse button will go to that URL. To use the zoom or push tools when over a URL object, hold down Ctrl when clicking - whichever of the tools was selected will become active. Clicking with the right hand mouse button opens a menu. The items on this menu are as follows: * Zoom Tool - toggles whether the zoom tool is selected. * Push Tool - toggles whether the push tool is selected. When the push tool is selected, the pointer becomes a flat hand shape, and dragging with the left mouse button will move the image around the screen. Note that one or other of the push and zoom tools is always selected. * Previous Zoom - displays the image at the previous zoom sstting. * Zoom to Fit - re-sizes the image so that it fits within the display area. * Full View - displays the image in the whole browser window rather than embedded wthin an HTML page. * Quality - changes the quality of the display with the following sub-menu: * Smoothed - fully anti-aliased display; best quality but slowest. * Normal - no anti-aliasing. * Outline - outlines only; lowest quality but fastest. * Ordered Dither - simple dithering; faster but lower quality. * Error Diffuse Dilter - better quality dithering, but slower. * About - information about the plug-in, including version number. * Go to Xara - takes you to the plug-in home page on Xara Limited's Web site. More information on the plug-in =============================== More information on the plug-in is available on Xara Ltd's Web site, at http://www.xara.com/. Pages of particular interest may be: http://www.xara.com/corelxara/plugin.html - information about the plug-in. http://www.xara.com/corelxara/hints/embedding.html - tips on embedding files in your Web pages using the plug-in. http://www.xara.com/corelxara/gallery/embedding/index.html - example embedded Xara files. You can get to the Xara site easily by choosing 'Go to Xara' from the menu generated by right-clicking over an embedded Xara file. Release notes for the 1.5 release ================================= The 1.5 release of the Xara plug-in works well - here is the list of known limitations: • Web format files - this isn't really an issue with the plug-in, but many of the Xara files on the Xara Web site are in a compact format which is being developed for Web use. Version 1.2 of CorelXARA will not create these files, nor can it attach URLs to objects as is allowed in the new format. • Embedded file cannot be used as a link - you cannot use the anchor () tag around an embedded Xara file, because clicks on the file will not be sent through to the browser. • Printing problems - attempting to print on high DPI printers with low memory may fail (now rare). • Printing from Microsoft Interenet Explorer won't work if the Xara document is loaded full-screen (not our fault - MSIE never asks the plug-in to print.) • Netscape Navigator 2 problems with embedded files - Netscape Navigator 2.0 may incorrectly position an embedded Xara file when re-flowing an existing page. This appears to be a bug in Navigator, and does not occur with version 3, nor with Microsoft Internet Explorer. • Using both CMX and Xara files on the same HTML page can cause problems. Please bear these known limitations in mind when using (and reporting problems with) the plug-in. Any problems may be reported to webmaster@xara.com - no reply is guaranteed, but we'll do our best.
