Opening Files
Using Navigate with an Accent, you can open the following file
types:
- HTML Documents
- Text Documents
- AU and AIFF Sounds
- GIF and JPEG
Images
- QuickTime Movies
There are several ways to open a file. From the History
list, you can open a file which you opened earlier. From the Bookmark
list, you can open a file which you have previously marked with a bookmark.
You can also retrace the steps
of your current Navigate with an Accent session.
You can open a new file
using either the Location Box, the File
menu, or the Open URL button from the Toolbar
.
Opening a File Using the Location Box
To access an Internet site or open a local file with the Location Box:
- Place the cursor in the Location Box (located underneath the Toolbar).
- Type the Internet address or local path and file name and press Enter
. For a local file, enter the path and file name in the following format:
file:\c:\directory\subdirectory\filename.htm
.
Opening a File Using the File Menu
To access
an Internet site or open a local file, use the File menu.
- To access an Internet site, select Open Location; a box labeled Open Location
appears. Type the address of the site you want and click Open.
- To open a
local file, click Open File; a dialog box appears. You can either enter the
path and file name in the File Name box or use the Look In box to select a
file. If you enter the path and file name manually, use the following format:
c:\directory\subdirectory\filename.htm. When you have specified
the path and file name, click Open.
Opening a File Using the Open URL Button
To access an Internet site or open a local file using the Open URL button:

Click the Open URL button from the Toolbar
; a box labeled Open URL appears. - Type the Internet address or local
path and file name and click OK. To open a local file, enter its path and file
name with the same format that you would use to open a file with the Location
Box.
