Infects plants at many stages of growth from seed to storage.  To prevent it, plant seeds at the right time.  It's also a good idea to use treated seed.  In cool, moist areas, build raised beds.  Don't set plants in low-lying areas with poor drainage.  Don't store damaged vegetables--cure them properly before storage.
