Grasslike evergreen with narrow leaves.  Six inches tall.  During spring and most of summer in cool situations 10-inch flower stems bear 3/4-inch clusters of white, pink, rose, or lilac flowers.  Intermittent bloom in warm zones.

Billowing cover in rock gardens or beds.  Does well in sandy soil, near seashore, or in nearly any well-drained soil in full sun.  Division of one large clump yields hundreds of new starts.  Space plants 8 to 12 inches apart in early spring or early fall.  Mulch between plants.  For best appearance, lift, divide, and replant when centers of old plants die.  Feed with slow-release fertilizer in early spring; again in early fall.
