Freesia (Freesia species) Place freesia, a forced bulb, near your bed to enjoy its scent at night. Blooms come in many colors. Light Place in darkness for 12 weeks in the fall, medium light during bud formation, and high light during bloom and leaf growth. Water Keep barely moist during initial root growth, evenly moist during bud formation, and very moist during bloom and leaf growth. Temperature Maintain temperatures in the low 50s until buds form. Tolerates average temperatures once in bloom. Comments Plant corms a half inch deep and one inch apart in shallow pots filled with porous soil in early fall. Keep barely moist, cool, and in darkness until growth starts. Move to cool spot with medium light to encourage budding. Feed and water regularly. Support with stakes. Bring into warmer room once in bloom; water well. Keep moist and well fed until foliage dies. Store pot on side in dry, cool spot until the next fall. Restart process. Propagate by seed or cormels from beside parent corm.
