Fishtail Palm
(Caryota mitis)

Easy to grow, fishtail palm is a striking foliage plant with deep green, leathery leaves that resemble fishtails.

Light
Expose to medium (bright indirect) light.  Avoid full sun.  Grows well if under artificial light 16 hours per day.

Water
Allow soil surface to dry out between thorough waterings.  Mist daily, especially during hot weather.  Raise humidity.

Temperature
Maintain average temperatures.  Tolerates no lower than high 50s at night.  Avoid cold drafts.

Comments
Pot up two sizes on a regular basis during early years of growth.  Use deep pots.  Let older plants get root-bound.  Feed with dilute mixture during active growth.  Do not overfeed.  Clean leaves monthly with damp cloth.  Propagate by division, seed (soil temperature in 80s), or suckers.
