Fiddle-Leaf Fig
(Ficus lyrata)

Fiddle-leaf fig produces shiny, leathery leaves in the shape of a violin (hence the name).

Light
Expose to medium (bright indirect) light.  Vary location by season to provide right conditions.  Avoid full sun.  Grows well if under artificial light 16 hours per day.

Water
Allow soil surface to dry out between thorough waterings.  Because plant likes above-normal humidity, mist whenever possible.  Place plant on tray filled with moist pebbles.

Temperature
Maintain high temperatures for best growth.  Plant tolerates temperatures of 60 to 75 degrees.

Comments
Use porous soil to avoid sogginess around roots.  Feed every 14 days during active growth.  Wipe dust from leaves regularly with a moist cloth.  Avoid all leaf polishes.  Propagate by stem cuttings or air layering when plant loses its lower leaves and looks straggly.
