Cherry Fruit Flies

Cherry fruit flies have larvae you sometimes find when you're pitting cherries.  The larvae are small yellowish worms, while the adult is black and smaller than a housefly with four black bands on its wings.  Use a spray program advised by your county extension agent from bloom until 14 days before harvest.  Or spray with diazinon or malathion at seven-day intervals as soon as you notice flies or maggots.
