Using Smoothing Groups

In the Editable Mesh panel, select all the faces north of the equator. Remove them from Smoothing Group 1 and assign them to Smoothing Group 2. Use the Select By Smooth Groups tool to be sure that the object is divided between the two different smoothing groups.

Export again and preview. The smoothing break should be quite visible, as in the image to the right.

Open ball.s3d in a text editor and look for the smoothingIndex array. Note how each faces is assigned to either number 1 or number 2. (The �1 marks the end of each face.)
