Robert Sherer

Step into the world of Atlanta artist Robert Sherer -- a world filled with beautiful bodies draped in flowing materials. Not quite southern, you might say to yourself but Sherer thinks differently.

He describes his work as "grandly southern" and after growing up in Alabama and living in Atlanta he's had enough of the South to pull ideas from. Especially in the realm of those people who have grieved over AIDS victims of which Sherer has explored in paintings before.

Beautifully rendered, Sherer explains his attention to detail regarding the clothing his figures wear:

"The gowns in (the) paintings speak for the cultural terrain (I traverse); some are elegant and formal, some are thrift store prom gowns and others are nothing but bed sheets wrapped around the figures in makeshift fashion."

In this y'all gallery exhibit Sherer gives us a taste of mystery, intrigue and mythology which play heavily on the classical themes Sherer likes to expose. But use your own vision to decide for yourself what the paintings mean to you.

Enter Robert Sherer's world and feel the sense of mystery he instills into his work.
