Jack Lawing writes...
"I was born and raised in the mountains of North Carolina. It was not until I returned after spending several years in New England that I realized the uniqueness of the language, idioms and customs of what I had always regarded as the norm.
"Much of my early work had been either nature or travel photography. Almost by accident I discovered that all around me was a singular eccentricity that should be recorded. The more I looked, the more I saw -- and the more I photographed. It seemed to me that the mountain people, above all, exhibited the wacky side of individuality and creativity, and they were not bashful in showing it.
"Most of my photographs are from the Georgia mountains, which are the most accessible from my home in Atlanta."
