About NISE -- the National Institute for Science Education

The NISE is a collaborative effort to ensure that all students who leave the educational system can make informed decisions about science, mathematics, engineering and technology. Our vision is that all stakeholders will acquire a strong foundation in science, mathematics, engineering and technology, and will become lifelong learners.

Based at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, in partnership with the National Center for Improving Science Education, funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), and co-directed by Professors Terry Millar and Andrew Porter, the Institute publishes The Why Files. NISE's vision is guided by three principles:
