travlang:

I founded the travlang company after my Foreign Languages for Travelers www pages became too popular for the university server they were residing on. We now offer a number of Travel and Language related services to the online community. [travlang front page]

[UC Berkeley] Since June 1996, I have been a post-doctoral researcher in the Zettl Research Group in the Physics Department at U.C. Berkeley. I am currently working on completing a low-temperature, high magnetic field Scanning Tunneling Microscope (STM). I am also doing some infrared measurements of Fullerenes and Buckytubes.

[BNL] From May 1995 until June 1996 I worked in the Neutron Scattering group of the Physics Department at Brookhaven National Laboratory as an experimental condensed matter physicist. The lab is located on Long Island, New York. The neutron scattering measurements we do are carried out on beamlines H4M, H7, H8 and H9A at the High Flux Beam Reactor, at BNL.

[USB] I recently obtained my Ph.D. while working in Prof. Laszlo Mihaly's group in the Physics Department at SUNY @ Stony Brook. I primarily studied the basic properties of Fullerenes (Carbon-60) and doped fullerenes (see above picures), using Infrared Spectroscopy done at Stony Brook, and at the U4IR and U2B Beamlines at the National Synchrotron Light Source at Brookhaven National Laboratory.

Professional Details:

[BOOK] My first physics book has recently been published: Solid State Physics: Problems and Solutions, by Laszlo Mihaly and Michael C. Martin, © 1996 John Wiley and Sons. Visit our web page about it and look for it at a bookstore near you!

Here are my [text]list of publications (including preprint postscript files). Also see my e-prints on the XXX Physics Preprint Server: Search for `Michael C. Martin'.

[Foreign Languages for Travelers]
I created and maintain the Foreign Languages for Travelers, Fremdsprachen für Reisende, Langues Étrangères pour Voyageurs pages. They teach the very basics of a number (over 25 so far) of languages with both text and sound.

[USB
Buckyball Homepage] I set up the buckminster.physics.sunysb.edu site. See our USB Buckyball Homepage, for information about fullerenes and some of the research I do.

I am also helping put together and manage the BNL High Flux Beam Reactor WWW pages and the Zettl Group Web Pages.
