Are you fiscally fit?
Take this quick quiz to determine if your finances are in good shape:
- Do you have emergency reserves equal to 4-6 months of living expenses?
If so, give yourself 2 points.
- If you had your insurance policies reviewed within the last three years,
give yourself 1 point.
- If you keep a budget and monitor your family's spending on a monthly
basis, give yourself 2 points.
- If you have long-term disability insurance coverage, give yourself 1
point.
- If you have a life insurance plan, give yourself 1 point.
- If your will has been reviewed in the past 2 years, give yourself 1
point. If you don't have a will, subtract 1 point.
- If your will designates a guardian for your minor children, or your
children are all grown, enter 1 point.
- If your investments are balanced as the result of intentional plan,
instead of by accident, give yourself 3 points.
- Give yourself 1 point for each year you and your spouse made the maximum
contribution to an IRA (since 1982).
- If you pay yourself first by setting aside a designated portion of your
earnings to savings and investments every month, give yourself 3 points.
Total: How do you shape up?
16 or above -- you are fiscally fit.
12-15 -- your fiscal fitness program needs some shaping up.
11 or less -- you are financially out-of-shape.
