WASHINGTON, D.C. -- On behalf of its 325,000+ members, the National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE) today reiterated its support of the Balanced Budget Amendment. Legislation proposing a Balanced Budget Amendment is expected to be voted on soon in both houses of Congress.
"In survey after survey, small business owners consistently list passage of the Balanced Budget Amendment as a top priority for Congressional action," said NASE President Bennie L. Thayer. "Small business owners are required to live and work within their means; they see firsthand how high debt payments can erode cash flow. Our members feel that the discipline of the Balanced Budget Amendment will benefit the entire country.
"The nation's enormous debt makes it even more difficult to tackle problems as complex as Social Security reform, another top priority for our members," Thayer continued. "And that's why Social Security must be included in the balanced budget calculations. Congress must stop raiding the Social Security trust fund to pay for unrelated government programs. The Balanced Budget Amendment would help protect Social Security.
"The NASE is enthusiastic about the chances of the Balanced Budget Amendment in this Congress, and urges every Member of Congress to vote for it," Thayer concluded.
