My shade of the month is "O". A color suggested by the hip young girl at the counter. I have to agree that they don't last so long. But I don't agree that that's a drag. I mean, I have so many lipsticks from years past that never made it to the end. And I'm happy when I have to 'freshen up' with MAC lipstick because it gives me the opportunity to bring out the black smooth case from my bag and experience it all over again. I like putting on lipstick, and now I can do it a few times each day with my "o" color. I am now a big fan of MAC. And I love that RuPaul is a cover model for MAC. He's so much more interesting than the others!!!

I love MAC. It is only sold in one mall, many store in the
mall, but still one mall. I may be moving to Austin soon
and one of my priorities is to find a MAC counter. They don't
exactly sell it mail order. My favorite lipsticks are Spirit,
Del Rio, and Cherish. And they showed me the most flawless
way to wear eyeliner. I will never use runny pencils again.
I think MAC has a dress code-you guys hit in the head
except for the streak of blonde in the hair (it doesn't seem
to matter what the rest of the haircolor is).

The people are friendlier and have less make-up on than
the MAC vampires. Plus, all the stuff is out there on
mirrored tables for you to play with without asking.

MAC, MAC, OH! MAC- how do I love it. I have yet to see anyone mention my favorite shades of hyper and frou. Hyper looks too dark but it is amazing when you actually put it on. Try it! Also, it is a must to own plum liner with those 2 colors. So if you're looking for new shades to try, go for it!

I have to confess to loving MAC lipstix as well ( how original)
My Verve was down to the nub, so i resorted to a drugstore
lipstick and it's actually great! And cheap!
No yucky smell - a non-drying matte.
It's L'Oreal Color Endure....
I also discovered I love SmashBox lipticks too.

I recently went through all my MAC tubes that were down to
the end, and scooped out what was left and there was a ton
of unaccesible lipstick left! Call me cheap.....
I have to get a makeover. Anyone have any suggestions for
where the best place to go it?

All the cosmetic names seem shamelessly obvious to me, a man,
in their promises of sexual bliss. They are all firming or
uplifting or invigorating. They make you tingle. Or glow.
Or feel young. They are prepared with hormones or placentas

of some women are to be supplied by the contents of jars
and bottles. Is it any wonder that they would spend twenty(?)
dollars for an ounce of face makeup or thirty(?) for a half-

I am really tired of spending so much money on lipstick. Although I do have drawers full of lancome, clinique and yes, mac, I have decided to be a bit more frugal and confine my lipstick shopping to Walgreens. I found this great shade of red there that works wonderfully for me. I am really into the retro thing (40's) and this is the perfect non-orangie color!

I wear just enough make-up to cover up blemishes. I like to wear lip gloss, to make my lips feel smooth and smell good. I don't go out in public without eye make up on. I think I look plain. I think I have nice green eyes, so I make them stand out. I rarely use blush because I get red so easily. When I'm feeling bold, I'll use my favorite gold lipstick. I think some girls look good with lots of make up, and others just look like they're trying too hard. If you look good with a lot of make-up and
comfortable with it, I say go for it!

i love make-up! i use it as a form of free expression and artistic creativity. mac pushes the envelope with the wide range of colors the line offers - a fact which really allows the imagination to flow. sometimes i get frustrated and feel confined by the fact that women labor precious time over vanity rather than using that same time for more altruistic and intellectual activities. other times i feel grateful that women have this outlet, and an arena in which to indulge in such frivolity and fun! when i feel like the latter example, applying make-up becomes a very empowering experience which feels like a celebration! applying make-up is also a terrificly meditative activity - i like to go into a peaceful restroom and just zone out for a bit - it's a rejuvinating ritual. on the whole, i have a lot more positive things to say about make-up than negative - and when i am feeling negative, i quickly remember that i am a person who ALSO does altruistic, intellectual stuff - i can put on make-up and still be a vital contributing member to my own life and to society as a whole. my favorite mac color is "cyber" because when i wear it i get told my lips look demonic. my favorite color of alltime though is chanel's "vamp" - it's decadent, rich and daring (because it truly does look a little like fresh blood). i wear make-up not just to pretty myself up, but to reflect a little of what is going on inside - it is my psychology and emotions revealing themselves on the surface. sounds a little exaggerated now that it's "on paper", but it's true, make-up really is as fascinating and complex as it is simple and frivolous. sounds like the contradictions inherent in a lot of things in life, huh?

I wore it for the first time 5 years ago for my junior prom.

This was before MAC was big and had RuPaul for a spokesperson.

The matte was divine and the exact kind of red that matched my
vintage Lucy-type dress that cost me less to buy than my date
spent to rent his tux.

It is incredibly long lasting and *I* always smell a hint of
chocolate in the lipstick. Am I the only one?

I have to agree that the male MAC counterpeople are nicer than the
females. But EVERYONE has an attitude. Being bicoastal, I see
the same kind of NYC attitude at the MAC counter in SoCal as in
Manhattan.

Actually, I don't wear alot of makeup, usually just lipstick, eyeliner, and mascara. I have this thing where I won't wear makeup if I feel my face is all broken out. Even though I know makeup

To reply to those who think applying makeup is a huge
waste of time, I'd say that anything that makes a woman
feel good is worth it.

Putting on makeup is really just an exercise in vanity, but
who cares? If it makes me feel better, you're darn tootin'
I'm going to continue doing it. I've got it down to 5 minutes,
and I always have 5 minutes.

It's a personal choice whether to wear makeup; what face
you're going to present to the world. It's boring to look the
same every day. I like having a little variety to do the mocha lipstick, or the red lipstick, or the no lipstick.

One pet peeve is the thick line of plum lipliner, filled in with
sheer shell pink gloss. What the hell is that supposed to emulate?

And then i dress smartly and so on and after all that i love myself and so i love others. See You.

I agree with what dirtypillows said below. I wonder if
studies have been done on female productivity like the
kinds they always do on commuting. You know the ones
where the amount of lost business producitivty is
reconciled against time spent commuting. What would
reallocation of time spent keeping up a look gain women
and girls in another area? I'd like to see serious
discussion on this issue, but I hate the way such discussion
often breaks down into a pretty-girls vs. ugly-feminists
debate. :( Noami Wolfe touched on this in The Beauty
Myth, but I've not seen it tackled elsewhere.

I understand that the so called need to be 'put together'
isn't always because of a woman's own volition, and I
don't mean to knock women who enjoy cosmetics. However,
I feel women spend a lot of their precious time on issue
related to cosmetics. I have friends who drop classes
because they aren't getting enough sleep, but these
same friends will wake up as early as 6 a.m. so that
they can be ready to leave the house at about 8 a.m.
And when their days come to an end, they have to remove
their morning faces and start on their night routine.
I think it would be more efficient to free up time by
not being so high maintenace, but that's just my
opinion and I don't beat my friends over the head with
it. Still, during the morning commute, I mostly see
women still working on their faces while I mostly see
the men relaxing iwth their coffees, papers, books, etc.
I know, I know, all the above is striclty anecdotal, but
it happens.

Anyway, I'll save my ranting for another forum
dealing with makeup in general. I must admit that
when I'm strolling through the mall near my workplace,
I've thought about dropping by the MAC counter but
haven't actually done so. I like the Adrien
Arpel Basic Face stuff she sells on the home shopping
network.

the only reason i wear MAC is because they are honestly the only makeup people who have *ever* done a decent makeover on me. i've been to just about every counter imaginable and end up looking like a scary clown everytime. the MAC folks (although they can often look a bit clownish themselves) have given me three awesome makeup lessons. i am a totally loyal user, now, and have gone miles out of my way just to get the stuff and am more than willing to deal with the rude antics of their (mostly male) salespeople to get what i need.

i must admit, however, i feel more than a little nervous going into any of their boutique stores without full makeup and wardrobe.

ragdoll, I'm with you!! I don't wear any makeup at all! I don't need it
and I don't think it's necessary. From the girls I've seen, it does more harm than good.
Take for example some of the girls at school, in high school there's this ritual that whenever
the new girls make the cheerleading squad, they have to go without makeup. Talk about Hell Week!
With makeup, they looked like bimbos, without makeup, they looked like old hags. And I'm talking about
14-16 year olds! I knew some of them from Elementary before they started with makeup and they never looked
that bad. I insist that makeup is the cause of it. I don't care how oil-free or hypo-allergenic that mess
is supposed to be, it's still goopy and thick! It will get into the pores and it will do some damage.
That's why I'm a cleanser-and-water girl. No $20 bottles of cleanser either. Just something that can be found at
the grocery store. If you really want to stay with a product line, go for Ponds. It's expensive to me (but I'm cheap)
but it really isn't. I'm mean compare $4-$10 for one of their cleansers or lotions to $20-$50 for one of the department store ones!
As for lips, lip smackers is the best. Something with flavor and still protects and gives me a little sheen. Who could ask for anything
more? My guilty pleasures are those wicked colored nail polishes! It took me a while before I tried them, because $12 ain't happenin'. Then
Sally Hansen released theirs for $1.49 and I was hooked! I will admit Urban Decay has some fly names (Roach! That's too much) but again, $12 for polish
and $15 for lipstick doesn't suit me. Above all, I keep this saying in mind when I think about makeup. It's from 'Allo, 'Allo, a British comedy:
"Lipstick, powder and a bit of paint, make a girl what she jolly well ain't!" Words to live by!

I confess that I have never had the patience to try MAX -- the line at Nordstroms in Washington, DC is always 50 women deep, and it always seems to be women with screaming kids in strollers. My MACless life has not left me without a lipstick obsession. I am a big Bobbi Brown junkie, myself. Other lipsticks can be so icky bright, all hot pink and orange....I was pining for a REAL neutral brownish lippy, burgundy berries without a hint of fuschia, and Hershey-bar yumminess that never strayed toward pumpkin land. Bobbi does right by me, allelujah! I'll have to elbow my way to the MAC counter now and further break the bank for the sake of my leeps.
