Bart: What does your apartment look like?
Lola: A motel room, but it's gettingmuch better. It's very, very eclectic because my husband and I are verydifferent. I like things certain ways and he wants things to be practical andcomfortable. I also keep things. If people give me gifts for the house that areugly I will keep them because I like the person even if the stuff is hideous. Andso it's a big mishmash and I'm in the process of rearranging it so that it looksmore harmonious.

Bart: How would you change the fashion business for the better?
Lola: What wouldbe great is if the young designers were able to do their work without beingconcerned about if it was marketable. If there was a way in which young designerscould do what they want to do it would be incredibly stimulating to the industryas a whole. For instance, Byron Lars is a really great designer. He could be anAmerican, trashy Gaultier. His clothes are very close, very sexy but few peoplebuy that and I understand but there should be a way for designers like that tokeep working. Everything now is Prada, Gucci, Gucci, Prada. It's all the samelook. It's a little unfortunate.

Bart: What is your work about?
Lola: I have absolutely no clue. I do whatever Ifeel like doing and I'm very lucky that way. I'm not obsessed with money. I likemaking a good living but I don't need to buy a Mercedes so I don't need to sell amillion hats. I can design things that make me happy and make it worthwhile forme.
