Bart: What makes a great hat?
Lola: Good design. Shape, proportion, color and texture. The lusciousness of the materials should be used with restraint. You should be very generous when you design. You should use as much as you want but not more than you need. A great hat makes you look good, and it enhances your personality and charm.

Bart: How does someone develop more style and dress better?
Lola: Rules don't apply. For instance, brown is fashionable now but some people look very good in pastel colors. You have to know what looks good on you. It's something you work at. You can develop style by exposure and being very honest with yourself. You determine what looks best on your body, and what looks best now. In most trends there is something you can find that will fit you. You have to learn to dress in a contemporary manner but truthful to your own style. That is something you do by looking at the magazines, looking in the best stores, looking through the racks. And then look at yourself.

Bart: How do you like to dress?
Lola: I'm inclined to the masculine side of my personality in the daytime. I wear almost exclusively pants. I never wear skirts. I like flat shoes, men's shoes, golf shoes, shoes I feel grounded in. But to go out at night, I go the whole other route; the highest heels I can find, the fanciest dress I can get, the gloves, the hat. What makes dressing up interesting is the contrast. During the day I definitely indulge my masculine side. I would have made a fine gay man, I'm sure. [Laughs heartily.]
