The Importance of Eating Well
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It is the fuel that sets the body in motion. Like you, my mornings are fast-paced and hectic, but I have learned through trial and error how to restore sanity to the morning meal. By planning my menu the night before, I have eliminated the guess work of "what to eat". A typical breakfast for me would include: 3 ounces low fat cottage cheese and 1 slice of dry whole wheat toast (I spread the cottage cheese on the toast!). The following day I might have: 3 ounces of plain yogurt with either a sliced banana, or six fresh strawberries, and 1/2 of a toasted bagel or, 1 scrambled egg, a piece of fresh fruit, toast buttered lightly or plain, or 1 cup of hot oatmeal cereal and a fresh fruit wedge. I also drink a warm glass of purified water or herb tea with my breakfast.

No matter how rushed you may be in the morning, make sure you are sitting down while you eat. Activity, such as walking and eating, is stressful on the digestive system. And please, don't gulp your food. Digestion with most foods begin in the mouth. Ptyalin is a salivary enzyme activated by chewing. You are eating not only to satisfy hunger, but also to extract as many nutrients as possible. Try these few simple tips and have a delicious day.
