General Rule
Rail movement is a special kind of movement. Units may be moved from rail to rail during the Rail Movement Phase. All rules governing Movement apply during the Rail Movement Phase.
Rail Movement Capacity
- The Japanese Player may move one unit by rail.
- The Commonwealth Player may move one unit by rail, or two if the CW Player played the "Increased Rail Capacity" option.
- Rail movement may be 40 hexes long, no matter what's the unit's Movement Allowance.
Restrictions
- Only supplied units may move by rail.
- Only units which did not moved during the previous Naval or Movement Phases may move by rail.
- Only units which do not begin the Rail Movement Phase adjacent to Enemy units may move by rail.
- Only Friendly controlled rail hexes may be part of the rail path.
- There are no Stacking restriction during rail movement, but Stacking will be checked at the end of the Rail Movement Phase. The Rail Movement Phase will not end as long as overstacked hexes exist.
Procedure
The game mechanisms control every aspect of units rail movement ; when a unit is about to move, all its reachable paths are displayed on the map. This way, units can't move beyond their capacity. The mechanisms take into account rail movement costs, prohibited terrain, enemy occupied hexes, and enemy ZOC.
- At the start of the Rail Phase, every Friendly unit that is allowed to rail move is marked as Available
- If no unit is selected, clicking on an Available unit will select it and display its reachable paths
- If a unit is selected, clicking on any hex of its reachable paths will rail move the unit to that hex. That unit will then be marked as Moved.
- If a unit is selected, clicking on it again will cancel its selection. [Esc Key]
- If no unit is selected, clicking on a unit that has previously rail moved will abort its move
