"Alternatives" - Subaru & Kamui
One word: fanservice. Admit it. The female fans are going gaga over the prospects presented, and consequently, numerous yaoi fanfics have sprung out (not that I mind, actually ^^;). While both Subaru and Kamui have went through similar tragedies, there are still differences ("Everyone's pain is different.") Seishirou is #1 priority on Subaru's agenda, and Subaru's condolence towards Kamui is a reflex of his old, caring nature. Besides, it's his duty to protect and aid the leader of the Dragon of Earth. Perhaps Subaru is touched by Kamui's concern, but in the end, this will not prevent him from carrying out his Wish.
