Reminder: The "Prominent Singers in Anime" section has been split into
two parts: singers who are also voice actors (Kinuko, Noriko, Megumi,
Kumi), and singers who only perform theme songs. If you are not sure
which section to check, check them both!
As always, any corrections/additions/comments are welcome. I'm trying
to get the track titles for as many of the CDs as possible, and fill up
the individual anime singers section. (Any Hirano Fumi or Wada Kanako
lovers out there?) I realize that the list is quite long, but I found
that by posting the whole thing (as opposed to mailing it out or making
it directly available for ftp), I get a lot more additions, corrections,
comments, etc. I'm posting it since that feedback is the strength of
this list. Enjoy!

If you think an album may be out of print, let me know. While it
still may be possible to buy it at some stores, it will save some
frustrations when trying to special order it.
Japanese CDs usually have the production date printed within a box on
the back cover, with the year of the original production usually
replaced by a letter. The letters correspond to the following years:
N 1984 H 1986 R 1988 C 1990
I 1985 O 1987 E 1989 D 1991
Although many of these CDs are out of print and commercial CD Catalogs
from Japan contain far more listings, I believe the strengths of this
list lie in the comments given by the various contributers. (How else
would someone know which Orange Road CD or Macross CD to buy!) So
please, if you own a CD listed here and would like to make a comment,
*any comment*, please do!
A list of mail order sources for these CDs appears at the end of the
document. If you can add or comment on these as well, please do!
Wanted: Information on "Manga" CD's!
DISCLAIMER: Because I "collected" many of these listings and did not
write them, I cannot vouch for their complete accuracy. Use this as a
guide only. Thanks!

(This is an image CD, with music sung by the actresses, and
not found on the soundtrack. It also features the new Priss.
I recommend this one. The first track is typical BGC
instrumental. The second, Kiss Me, by the new Priss, is a
great rocker song. The third is a pretty good funk song,
This Night. The majority of the rest are pretty good,
although there is a track that sounds as bad to me as hearing
C-ko Kotobuki belt one out. It is just a complete (maybe)
story, i.e. dialogs, sound effects, one closing theme-song and
everything you might expect in watching a continuous
BGC! movie, save there is no picture.)

(This CD has a pretty good range of music. Track five

(These are a collection of songs from the new KOR

above, whatever I could, the song titles are in
English. For tracks 1,4,6, and 9, the titles are in
Japanese that I have translated to English, but the
Japanese title is in parenthesis. If they are not in
parenthesis, it is because the Japanese title is
easily translated from katakana.)

(Kawai Kenji composed the instrumentals. Has the most
famous vocals and BGM, with some wonderful "long BGM"
tracks (1, 7, 13, 27...) that could not be heard wholly
in TV series. Remember the most beautiful "kiss"
love scene between Godai and Kyoko, just when the snow
starts falling, 3 episodes before the final one? That
BGM is from track 1, "bells ring in the dawn", a
masterpiece... and the CD starts with it... and it ends
with these ringing bells too... listen carefully !
In the final episode 96, you can hear the track 13 too,
while Godai-kun is revealing all characters' stories.)

Maison Ikkoku Koi suru Kimochi
Kitty Records H30K-20088 (1987.9.25), Y3008
15 tracks: 8 vocal/7 drama, 39:31
("A feeling of love". All these songs are performed
by Shimamoto Sumi, the "real" voice of Kyoko. Some of
them are Sumi-chan's versions of OP/ED themes (1, 13),
others are insert songs, that may be heard for a -too?-
short time in the TV series (5, 9) while others are brand
new (3, 7, 11, 15). The OP/ED themes' original musics
have been changed a little, and now feelings are
different, but very good, still in the TV style. Between
the songs, dialogues (SC) featuring Kyoko, Godai, Akemi,
Yotsuya and Ichinose have been inserted. They have been
created especially for this CD and cannot be found
elsewhere! A Japanese friend (who CAN understand
Japanese...) told me that these dialogues were VERY funny.
He used to translate me the last one (SC-7), here it is
(Kyoko speaking): "Wow, I had a hard time; I was very
impressed to have to sing in front of you but it was very
nice. Yotsuya-san didn't stop from talking and drinking,
so that he didn't listen to me at all! But I hope that
YOU did... didn't you?".
The first one (SC-1) is made of all Ikkoku-kan weirdos
congratulating Kyoko for this new CD performance, with
a final loud "Kanpai!!".
A good and enjoyable CD to fill your collection up.)

Pony Canyon PCCG-00013 (1990.1.21), Y2800
19 tracks / 46 subtracks, 52:19
(Nettou-ongaku-hen has much of the early Ranma 1/2
Nettouhen BGM. The only vocal is the first closing
theme from Ranma 1/2 Nettouhen. The Nettouhen music
is a lot more shallow and cartoony than the original
series, except the music from the skating pair episodes
which were made by the original producers, but weren't
aired until Nettouhen. Some of it is cute, but overall
flat by comparison with Ongaku Doujou.)

(For those who are fans of THE TRANSFORMERS, this is one
soundtrack to add to collection. The song "The
Tranformers" is an extended version of the cartoon version.
The version similar to the cartoon one is played at the
beginning, while the whole song is played at the end when
the credits are shown. It is well-done. Also, the cover
to this CD case is INCREDIBLE!!!! Inside has a big foldout
with the lyrics in English and Japanese! Also, some other
stuff in Japanese. BTW, the audio US edition of the cassette
and album are out of print, so if you got one, keep it. One
day it might be a collector's item.)

(Pretty good, with 2 interesting sounding songs.
Track 7 "Asian Dream" features Indian(?) instrument and
Track 10 sounds like a funeral song, with background chorus,
at end, she shows high end of her voice in English,
sort of like gospel music.)

Anime CD Glossary
-----------------
BBGGMM- Back Ground Music. This refers to a video's soundtrack
and may not necessarily include any songs. This concept is similar to
the way the two Batman soundtracks were released in America. (One by
Prince containing the songs and one by Danny Elfman containing the
BGM.)
CCDDVV- Compact Disc Video. A CD that contains video tracks that can be
played on a laserdisc player, or played in an ordinary CD player for their
audio.
DDrraammaa AAllbbuumm- This is, quite simply, an audio recording of the
movie including dialogue and special effects.
HHii--TTeecchh SSeerriieess- Synthesizer versions of the soundtrack.
IImmaaggee AAllbbuumm- These are essentially musical editorials of what
the composer feels the music represents for certain aspects of the
film. Aspects that are subject to the image scores include
characters, places, situations, etc.
SSyymmpphhoonniicc SSuuiittee- This is symphonic compositions of the same
soundtrack of your favorite anime. Usually, they are compositions of
the soundtrack performed by orchestras. The compositions may be
longer and are frequently variations of scores from the soundtracks.

Question: OK, I see a lot of CDs I want, where do I get them?
Answer:
If your local anime store doesn't carry the CD you want, you can always
mail order it. There are several mail order places that can special
order it for you if you can give them the title and label number. Two
places I highly recommended are Sight & Sound and Laser Perceptions.
Both primarily carry Anime LDs but also have anime CDs. While they may
not keep a large in stock inventory, they can special order just about
anything and do not charge your credit card until they get the items in
and ship them. Sight & Sound also sells an Import Catalog ($8.95) which
contains lots of information about various Anime LDs and CDs.

Phone: 1-617-894-8633 Phone: 1-415-753-2016
Another excellent CD source is Nikaku Animart. While I don't know if
they can special order CDs, they do keep the largest in stock selection
that I have ever seen. Send a SASE for their current catalog.

Sound City 2000 has competitve prices. They don't stock CDs, but takes
your money and buys the CD from Japan to be mailed to you directly.
One order took about 10 days to arrive from Japan with a total wait of
over a month, but compared to Laser Perceptions, that's nothing! They
send the CDs ASAP; if you ordered 3 different CDs, they won't wait until
they get all 3 in. Make sure you know what you want exists, because if
they can't get something, you don't get a refund, just credit.
