404alert is simple ad-supported freeware that performs an important function for anyone who really depends on their Web site or wants to know what's going on with it at all times. It alerts you (and others, if you wish) by email, pager or SMS if your Web server goes down, and informs you by the same means when it's come back up again.
This isn't a hosted service, though, so it relies on your machine being online to ping your Web server at specified intervals. In other words, it's only going to be genuinely useful for people with always-on connections and PCs that aren't too inclined to crashing.

Ad-Aware is a spyware removal utility that scans your memory, registry and hard drives for known spyware and scumware components and lets you remove them safely. VNC (Virtual Network Computing) is remote control software that allows you to view and interact with one computer (the 'server') using a simple program (the 'viewer') on another computer anywhere on the Internet. The two computers don't even have to be the same type, so for example you can use VNC to view an office Linux machine on your Windows PC at home.
You could control another computer across a network, as if sitting in front of that computer: help friends and relatives solve problems on their systems; provide a flexible hot-desking environment by allowing employees to access their office desktop and server machines from any machine in the company's offices or from other remote sites; VNC can also be used in educational contexts, for example to allow a distributed group of students simultaneously to view a computer screen being manipulated by an instructor, or to allow the instructor to take control of the students' computers to provide assistance.

At last, here is the WinZip 9 final release. WinZip is an excellent archive file manager, handling ZIP and other compression formats, including many common on the Internet, such as TAR, BinHex, UUencode and MIME. Features handy integration with Windows explorer.
One of the main reasons for this update is to fix a security issue in earlier versions of WinZip involving the use of MIME-encoded files. WinZip 9 supports 128- and 256-bit key AES encryption, which provide much greater cryptographic security, and encryption is now easier to use. You can now easily encrypt the files that are already in a Zip file. For all practical purposes, there is now no limit to the size of Zip files or the number of files within them. This version also includes various minor enhancements, including to performance and the user interface.
