How do I connect to Connected Online Backup?

Can I backup all of my software using Connected Online Backup?
Sure, but Connected recommends backing up only user-generated files, as it is more economical to store backups of software programs on their original floppies or CD-ROM than it is to back them up via modem.

How often should I do backups?
Daily backups are recommended to protect whatever new material you've created. Connected Online Backup will let you set up an automatic schedule so that daily backups happen automatically and unattended.

How long do backups take?
Your first Connected Online Backup backup could take an hour or more, depending on how long you have had your PC and how many data files you have created. But after the first "baseline" backup, incremental, daily backups should typically take only 5 minutes or less!

What do I have to do to perform daily backups?

How do you protect my data? How is my data protected from view?
Beyond account and password protection, all files are encrypted using the well established National Data Encryption Standard 56 bit method used by banks and financial institutions for online banking transactions. You select your own encryption key that is used to encrypt all of your files. The key is strictly confidential; no one but you knows this password. So, your files are encrypted before they even leave your PC and no one can read them while in transit or while they are in storage.

How do I restore files? How many versions of a file do you keep?
Retrieval of files is quick and easy. You can retrieve any version of a backed up file with a point and click on a familiar screen. If you wish to retrieve many files, just order a personalized CD-ROM with all of your files and we'll ship it to you next day. The CD will contain every version of every file that you created, and will make it faster to restore any older files you might want to put back onto your hard disk.
