Using the EasyPhoto Workshop


The Workshop Window

The EasyPhoto Workshop gives you the tools to adjust the exposure of your photos or make enlargements. You can make changes to an entire photo or make changes to selected parts of a photo, such as fixing a "red-eye" problem.

To open a photo in the EasyPhoto Workshop window, do one of the following:

The main portion of the EasyPhoto Workshop window displays the photo you selected from the Photo Gallery.


The Toolbar

This window also contains a toolbar that provides shortcuts for menu commands. The following are brief descriptions of the buttons contained in the EasyPhoto Workshop's toolbar.


Save
Saves any changes that you made to the photo.

Move
Allows you to drag a photo to a document or to the photo gallery.

Select Rectangle
Selects a rectangular area of a photo.

Select Freehand
Selects an irregular area of a photo.

Zoom In
Magnifies your view of the part of the photo you click.

Zoom Out
Reduces the magnification of the part of the photo you click.

Resize
Resizes the photo larger or smaller, depending on how you move the cursor.

Crop
Deletes all but the selected part of a photo.

Rotate
Rotates the photo clockwise or counterclockwise, depending on which way you move the cursor.

Brightness/Contrast
Allows you to change the brightness or contrast of a photo.

Adjust Color
Allows you to adjust the colors of a photo.


Remove Scratch
Allows you to remove a selected scratch from a photo.


Remove Red-Eye
Allows you to fix a red-eye problem in a photo.


Show Help
Displays the Help window.


Basic Tasks

The basic steps for using the EasyPhoto Workshop window appear below.

To...

Do the following...

Select a rectangular area of a photo
  1. Click Select Rectangle.
  2. Press and hold the left mouse button.
  3. Drag the mouse from any corner of the area you want to select to the opposite corner and release the button.
Select an irregular area of a photo
  1. Click Select Freehand.
  2. Press and hold the left mouse button.
  3. Drag the mouse around the perimeter of the area you want to select and release the button.
View the photo with increased or decreased magnification

To increase magnification:
  1. Click on the Zoom In tool.
  2. Click the zoom cursor on the center of the area you want to magnify. Continue to click with the zoom cursor until you reach the magnification level you want or until you reach the maximum magnification.

To decrease magnification:

  1. Click on the Zoom Out tool.
  2. Click the zoom cursor on the center of the area in which you want to reduce magnification.
Resize a photo

  1. Click the Resize button in the toolbar.
  2. Drag a handle to change the size of the photo.
  3. When the photo outline is the size you want, release the mouse button.
Crop a photo

  1. Select all or part of a photo using Select Rectangle or Select Freehand.
  2. Click Crop to delete everything outside the selected area.
Rotate a photo

  1. Click the Rotate button in the toolbar.
  2. Drag any handle to turn the photo.
  3. When the photo outline is the angle you want, release the mouse button.
Flip a photo

Choose one of the Flip commands from the Photo menu:
  • Select Flip Horizontally to flip the current photo end for end, creating a mirror image of the photo.
  • Select Flip Vertically to flip the current photo top to bottom.
Change contrast or brightness

  1. Click the Brightness/Contrast button.
  2. In the dialog box, click or drag the Brightness and Contrast sliders to make changes.
  3. Click OK to make the changes to the photo and close the dialog box.
Adjust the color

  1. Click the Adjust Color button in the toolbar.
  2. In the dialog box, drag the Red, Green, and Blue sliders to change the proportion of each color in the photo.
  3. Click OK to make the changes to the photo and close the dialog box.
Fix a scratch

  1. Use the Select Freehand tool to select the area with the scratch.
  2. Click the Remove Scratch button.
  3. In the dialog box, drag the sliders until the scratch disappears in the After sample.
  4. Click OK to make the changes to the photo and close the dialog box.
Fix a red-eye problem

  1. Use the Select Freehand tool to select the area with the scratch. You don't have to be too precise, just close enough that EasyPhoto can distinguish between red eyes and other red items.
  2. Click the Remove Red-Eye button.
  3. In the dialog box, drag the slider until the eyes look normal in the After sample.
  4. Click OK to make the changes to the photo and close the dialog box.
Save changesDo one of the following:
  • Click the Save button.
  • Choose Save As from the File menu. Type a new filename in the File Name box, change the format if desired, and click OK.
