Using Built-in File Transfer Protocol (FTP)Utility

File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

The built-in FTP utility in Web Factory is similar to most stand-alone FTP programs. The primary advantage to using this feature is that it is integrated directly into Web Factory, saving you a few steps versus opening up another program. To learn more about the topic of File Transfer Protocol, try using any of the Usenet groups specializing in Internet, Networking, or Web Authoring. Alternatively, your local bookstore will have texts on Internet communications topics, including FTP.

1. To invoke the FTP function, select File and then Batch FTP Files from the File menu.

2. The user presentation is a standard two pane view of files and folders. The left hand pane is the local directory on your PC, the right hand pane is the server directory.

3. The right hand Server pane will be empty until you select an FTP server. You do this by clicking "Connect" and typing the IP address in the dialog box.

4. To move a file from local to server, select the file on the local directory, then press the upload
( -->>)
button.

5. To move a file from server to local, select the file in the server directory, then hit the download (<<--) button.

6. Both panes have buttons to change the currently shown directory in that pane as well as buttons to create or "make" directories , rename the file or directory, or delete the file or directory.

7. To keep files between server and PC synchronized, you may wish to use our Path Translation List feature.
