Features

Glory Zone is an arcade style 3D space shooter with an integrated MP3 player.

Game has: Registered version will save all game settings, including hiscore tables and playlist!

How To Buy?

Glory Zone is shareware. This means that you may try it free of charge. Of course, there are some limitations in unregistered version. As unregistered user you will be able to play only first 8 levels of the game, and none of the settings will be saved. This means that if you redefine the keys, or assign joystick buttons, or make an entry into the hiscore table, or compose a nice playlist, all of that will disappear once you exit the game.

Buying Glory Zone is quick, secure and easy - no additional downloads are required!
(In fact you are buying only a licence/registration code.)

For only $8 (US) you will get your personal licence/registration code for Glory Zone which you should then enter inside the unregistered shareware version of the game by choosing REGISTER from main menu. This will unlock the game so you will be able to play it without restrictions.

To order Glory Zone go to: www.space-ewe.com

VISA, Mastercard, American Express, Discover (Novus) and Eurocard credit cards are accepted. It is also possible to pay with check or money order, but this will cost you additional $2.50 and you will have to wait longer for your registration code.

After your payment is processed, you will receive Glory Zone Receipt with the registration code to the e-mail address that you have provided. If you are paying with credit card you will also get your personal registration code immediately on the screen.

Please, write down your licence/registration code and store it at some safe place, because you won't be able to see it in the registered game. You might need it in the future in case you buy a new computer, or reinstall the Windows.

To complete registration process:
  1. start Glory Zone
  2. choose REGISTER from main menu
  3. type in licence/registration code
  4. press return (enter)
When you return to the main menu, "UNREGISTERED" sign at the top of the screen should disappear. If it is still there, you probably didn't enter your registration code correctly. Try to enter it again.

It is recommended that you exit the game upon successful registration, to let the game save its registered status!

Once registered, the game will let you play beyond 8th level. It will also save all game settings, including hiscore table and playlist.

What's New In v1.2?

Glory Zone now has autofire.

All alpha (translucent) textures are exchanged with RGBA textures.

Improved timing.

Better joystick support.

Some bugs are corrected.

What Was New In v1.1?

There are now 3 levels of difficulty in Glory Zone and each has its own hiscore table.

Hiscore table now displays level number which you've reached.

You can now disable joystick on the configuration screen.

There are now 6 cheat codes available.

Some bugs are corrected.

System Requirements

To be able to start Glory Zone you absolutely need: For a reasonable performance you should have: Be sure that you have installed the latest display drivers for your graphics card. Many problems may emerge because of too old display drivers. You will most likely find the latest display drivers at your card's manufacturer website.
If you have Windows95/98, you could also try to install appropriate display drivers with GLSetup.

Check out the list of tested 3D cards, operating systems and processors.
For the latest compatibility list visit www.space-ewe.com.

Voodoo 1/2/Rush owners, please read note for voodoo owners section of this manual.

Deinstallation

To deinstall Glory Zone, from Start menu choose Programs..Glory Zone..Uninstall.

Game Objective

In this game you fly through space in a space ship and destroy enemies with missiles. For every enemy ship destroyed you earn some points. When destroyed, some of the enemies leaves objects behind them. Collecting these objects can give you additional points, speed, faster weapon, shield or extra life, but beware of the question marks! As well as give, they can also take some of the upgrades from your ship.

Of course, game objective is to earn as many points as possible.

You get an extra life at 50,000 points, and at every 100,000 points. You can have maximum of seven spare lives. If you have seven spare lives and make for example 500,000 points, you will get 10,000 points instead of a life.

Game Objects

There are 11 types of enemies (only 4 in unregistered version), and 9 types of objects for collecting.

Number of points for destroying particular enemy can be found inside the game under GAME OBJECTS. (From main menu go to OPTIONS, and then choose GAME OBJECTS.) First number represents points you score by destroying the enemy while it flies within the fleet. Second number represents points for enemy destroyed when it is out of the fleet, for example attacking.

Some of the enemies are so called chiefs. (Chiefs are marked with a "+" sign in GAME OBJECTS screen.) They are taking other ships along their sides when attacking. They can lead up to four ships to attack, and their value changes accordingly to the number of accompanying ships at the start of the attack. This means that even if you shoot down some of the ships around the chief during the joined attack, the chief will still worth the same. Here are the scores:
Most of the objects that you can collect are well explained in GAME OBJECTS screen, so here we will explain only "three missiles in a row" object and "question mark" object.

At any time you can have only two missiles simultaneously on the screen. You won't be able to fire next missile until one of the missiles hits something, or gets out of the screen. "Three in a row" object gives you ability to have three simultaneous missiles on the screen.

Question mark can do any of the following: Notice that question mark will never destroy your ship! It can only take a shield away, of course if you have at least one.

Game Levels

Game is divided into two types of levels: BATTLE levels, and SKILL levels.

There is total of 32 battle levels, and 8 skill levels in the game (for registered users, of course). When you complete the last level, the game will continue from the first one.

In BATTLE levels enemies are comming in waves and take their places in the fleet. Once all of them have settled, they will attack you, either alone or by following a chief. Sometimes, there are so called "runaways" from incoming waves. If you manage to destroy all of the runaways from a single wave you will get runaway bonus as follows: In SKILL levels you won't be in any kind of danger! Several enemy waves will pass in front of you, and your task is just to destroy as many enemies as you can. If you destroy all of the enemies in some wave you will get special bonus. There can be 8, 10, or 12 enemies in a single wave, and special bonus is 1000, 1500 and 2000 points respectively. Once all of the waves have passed, you will get skill bonus accordingly to the percentage of the enemies shot down. Here are the relations: Every fifth level is a skill level.

Controls

Through the menus you can navigate with keyboard or joystick, but not with mouse.
(If you cannot move through the menus try to run the game with disabled joystick.)

Keyboard navigation is done with arrows, return (or enter, space) and ESC keys.
Joystick navigation is done by pushing (or pressing) the direction, and fire button. Fire button is by default the first button, but it can be changed.

This game does not support the mouse! Please do not try to move your ship or navigate the menu with it.

You can pause current game with ESC.
While in game, either in some menu or playing, you can press F1 to see other ingame shortcut keys.

You control your space ship with three keys.
You can redefine the keys by choosing OPTIONS...CONTROLLER.
To redefine joystick buttons, press return at the TYPE option. This will switch to the joystick page. If you have joystick with multiple buttons you can assign music player controls to them!

MP3 Playlist

Glory Zone has integrated mp3 player. Playlist inside the game can have maximum of 50 entries.

To compose a playlist go to the OPTIONS...SOUND and choose EDIT PLAYLIST.

With left, right (either arrows, or joystick directions) you move from the "file list" over the "menu" to the "playlist". While in file list or playlist, pressing up or down will move you up or down in the list.

If you are in file list, pressing the return (space, joystick fire button) will: If you are in playlist, pressing the return will: Above the file list and playlist you can find complete name of the song (or subdirectory), and current directory (the directory which is listed in the file list). This is done because in some lower display modes and especially when you are in top view mode, the names of the files can be too long to fit into file/play list.
Recall that even if you like to play in top view mode you can easily (F2) change it to 3D view which is because of the wide display more appropriate for editing playlist.

FILL PLAYLIST will fill the remaining of the playlist from the first song (in alphabetical order) in the file list.

Once you have composed the playlist there is several ways of controling it, but remember, music player controls work only outside the EDIT PLAYLIST: To see the function keys assigned to music player press F1 or go to OPTIONS and choose SHORTCUTS.

If mp3 player is skipping some of the songs you put into the playlist, please read this.

Compatibility List
July the 11th 2001

For the latest compatibility list visit www.space-ewe.com.

If you have some 3D card which is not on our list, and Glory Zone works fine with it, we would be appreciated if you let us know about it, so we can update Glory Zone compatibility list.

Voodoo 1/2/Rush owners please read note for Voodoo owners section of this manual.

Glory Zone has been tested and confirmed to work properly with following 3D cards/chips:
1If you have Win2000 you should make sure that you have the latest drivers installed, because for some ATI cards Win2000 CD does not contain OpenGL driver. If you experience some problems, please visit ATI and read their Win2000 FAQ to determine if OpenGL driver for your card is shipped on Win2000 CD, or if you should download the latest display drivers to get OpenGL properly installed.

2Some problems were reported with i740 in 32bit modes. Display was garbled with color chunks everywhere. In 16bit modes game works fine.

Game has also been tested with Trident 9750.
Since OpenGL driver is not available for this particular 3D card, we used Direct3D wrapper for OpenGL from alt.software and it worked well, considering limitations which this card has.

If your 3D card also doesn't have OpenGL driver available read this for guidelines about installing and using Direct3D wrapper with Glory Zone.

Game has been tested on: However, this doesn't mean that every combination of operating system version and 3D card has been tested! It is possible that Glory Zone will have problems with running on some combinations of above mentioned 3D cards and Windows versions.

Game has been tested with:
Note For Voodoo Owners

It is likely that you will need to download one additional zip of approximately 50KB to be able to start Glory Zone with Voodoo 1/2. If you get following error while starting Glory Zone: "Could not load OpenGL Utility Library.", please read explanation of a possible solution.

If you have another 3D card installed beside Voodoo 1/2, and want to run the game on it instead of Voodoo 1/2 (which is chosen by default) you can try this workaround.

If you have very poor performance in some display modes you should be aware that:
(Note that Glory Zone does not support 512x384 mode.)

We do not know how will the game behave if you choose some other game display settings.
Anyway, if the game becomes extremely slow, it is probably not hardware accelerated. In that case you can press F12 (fast exit to system), and try it with different settings.

If nothing helped, please read support section of this manual for a proper way to obtain support.

Troubleshooting

I get the warning which says that OpenGL is not properly installed. When I start Glory Zone, nothing except the function keys works. Game is incredibly slow! Game is quite jerky. MP3 player is skipping some of the songs I put in the playlist. I can't get it work in 1024x768 windowed mode, and my desktop is set to 1024x768. I can't get it work in 16 (or 32) bits in windowed mode. I get a warning which says that because my desktop is set to 24 (or 15) bit color depth, the game will most likely work with very poor performance in windowed mode. Why? I get the following error: "Could not load OpenGL Utility Library." My 3D graphics card doesn't have OpenGL driver, but it has some hardware acceleration through Direct3D. Is there a way to make Glory Zone use hardware acceleration on my 3D card? I have two 3D cards in my computer, and one of them is Voodoo 2. Glory Zone seems to always choose Voodoo 2. How can I make Glory Zone work with my other 3D card?
