KDE is a network-transparent contemporary desktop environment for Unix workstations. KDE seeks to fill the need for an easy-to-use desktop for Unix and Linux, similar to the desktop environments found under the MacOS or Windows. It includes a window manager, file manager, panel, control centre, and many other components that one would expect to be part of a contemporary desktop environment.
